Who Doesn’t Love Wikipedia?!?!
October 20th, 2006 Posted in Random Like Ralph Macchio
I warn you now … this one is random. Okay, so, the other day, I’m on Wikipedia and I’m looking up ( … don’t ask me why …) feral children. You know, children that have been raised in the wild and/or with little to no human contact. I find out that there are only 100 or so documented cases in the world including: dog boy, wolf boy, chicken man and the little wolf girls. Does anyone else look up random shit on Wikipedia or am I alone? Anyone? Anyone?

I never thought of looking up such, um, unusual things is Wikipedia. Perhaps I will have to start.
I read all of those articles (because, you know, I’ve been up for a while and it’s not even 6:15 yet) and the thing that struck me most was the last line of the “Wolf boy) article:
“With proper care, he can learn how to become a human being.”
Um, isn’t he a HUMAN even if he doesn’t act like one? Last time I checked, human was a species before being a condition.

I watched an amazing story of a girl who was like these children but was locked in a basement by her father, kept in a cage, just awful. She learned to communicate eventually, and did bond with her scientist caregivers. It reminded me of the chimps who are trained to communicate with humans. So sad.

Oh yeah…..all the time. I will pick things out of an article or something I see on TV and plug it in to see what comes up. It is quite entertaining and can be good when people hand you word association games (dang Scott)!!!
The Oprah show was good the other day though if you go out to her website she basically has a transcript of the show. He promised that if he decided to run for president he would announce on her show. Here is hoping that he does :)

It’s to the point where I will use Wikipedia more than Google. To borrow a phrase that Mitch borrowed from Stan Lee – “‘Nuff said.”

I think the term for people like us is ‘wikiwhores’.
Totally love it!

OMG. You are HILARIOUS!!!
I hear there are some in the city, on the outskirts, just running wild late at night…

Forgot to add that it is fun to play 6 degrees of seperation with it….
Lava Lamp can get you to Soar System in 6 clicks of words w/definitions
Barack Obama leads you to:
2004 Democratic National Convention
TD Banknorth Garden
Boston, Massachusetts
American Revolution
to George Washington
If that is not a sign he should be president I don’t know what is :) Ok so technically I guess that would work with any democrat but I like the process!!!

Bexxie: I love Google too. But, somehow it’s not as addictive as Wikipedia.
MamaChristy: Good catch. And, yes, that is an odd statement when you think about it.
Pegs: Very sad. It’s like that book, “A Boy Called It.”
History Chic: I’m sooo gonna check out her site. Obama is such a great man. Distar wrote a good post about him recently. Read it; it’s good.
Firefly: Okay, glad to know that I’m not alone. Sometime I’ll start wikipedia-ing stuff and I’m like, “How the hell did I even get to this page?”
Howard: :)
Darwin: LOVE that term. I’m going use it sometime!! :)
sid: I hear that too!!! ;)
History Chic: OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!

You are so NOT alone. The last thing I looked up? “Rock the Casbah.” I was having an 80’s flashback and well . . . I should probably stop now while I’m still ahead, no?

I like to let it send me to random pages… then I look for interesting links and see where I end up. I don’t usually search for anything specific other than stuff for schoolwork.

You are alone…..

Oh yeah, who doesn’t do that? In fact, they’re bugging me from school to do that.. they want us to learn the real meaning of things (and to become more culturalized.. ha ha.. whatever!) I did feel more identified with Bexxie in the fact that I do use google much more.. For example, (and I always do this) whenever I’m chating and sb asks me if I know a song or a group I’ll just go ahead and google it just to look cool (because I still listen to the same CD’s I bought a gazillion years ago..) Whatta looser I am! LOL.. bye Hollie!

I love Wikipedia. It has something on everything.
I was in NYC last Monday. I think I say you.

that should be “saw”

there was a feral child discovered not too far from me years ago. I think it was a boy who was kept in a chicken coop because he was illegitmate. Seamus Heaney wrote a poem about him or summat.

I just watched a program on Discovery last night – it was talking about nature vs nuture — very interesting; also a very sad commentary on the “human” condition. (no to be confused with HUMANE)

John Enright: Indeed.
Nerd Girl: In the 80s, I was such a goof that I honestly thought that song’s lyric was “Rock the Cash Bar”. For years I wondered, what Cash Bar?!?!?!
kypris: I’m an info nut. I look up a bunch of stuff on Wikipedia.
Laura: :)
Nat: You’re not a loser! :)
vanessa: Wikipedia rocks!! :) And, no prob about the typo; I do that all the time.
Nics: REALLY?!?!?!
E: I’m so mad that I missed that. I’ll follow your link to check it out. Hopefully, they’ll rerun the program.
