History Chic: Yeah, I know what you mean about the bar scene. I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, the crowds (as long as they aren't too big) are intoxicating. On the other hand, I get soooo irritated by the "scene". By the way, I'm glad that you're tuning in for the live show. You should call in this time! :-)

distar: DITTO everything that you said. The sweaty people, desperate people, etc. etc. are *very* annoying.

cici: Yeah, several years ago, I liked clubs better than bars because clubs were "exciting" and bars were "boring." Now, I prefer bars over clubs because bars are pleasant and clubs are annoying.

Mitch: END THAT DROUGHT!!!!!! :-)

kyla: No worries. Of the people who read my blog, the vast majority don't "know" me -- we've never met. Same goes for the blogs that I read. I subscribe to an absurd amount of blogs bia Bloglines, but I've only spoken to and/or met three or four people who blog.

tim73: You said, "HOW MANY FUCKING TIMES WE THE MEN ARE SHIT; ASSHOLES; TOTAL LOSER? YEAH? PAYBACK TIME YOU PRIMADONNAS, GO DRINK LATTE." Tim, Tim, Tim ... you've got it all wrong: I drink *soy mochas* not *lattes*!!!! ;-)

susan: I think you're right. Maybe he needs to drink a few soy mochas to mellow out? ;-)

NML: My blog loves your blog!!!

Firefly: Sounds like a nice town.

Shaz: Agreed. Bars & lounges = me likey. Mega clubs = me no likey.

Darwin: That's what I'm here for, babes! Singlehandedly spreading the love for NYC throughout the globe . . . :)

I like bars and lounges for gathering with friends for a drink occasionally, but I'm not trying to find myself in them on a regular basis. I'm not interested in the high prices, not finding a place to park/taking unpredictable-somewhat unsavory public transportation late at night, drunk people, and in general...playing "the game." "The game" is a lot like "the bar scene." Everybody hates it, but it's the only thing they know how to do. Personally? I'll pass.

i'm all for the bar scene, but then i have to say that i live in a very user-friendly (european) city when it comes to bars. i guess it's because there's tons of students here, so the bars know there's a clientel out there who's all to ready and willing to spend money on drinks and all the subsequent, ahm, fun ;) then again, this city is a village - scratch village: a neighbourhood. everybody knows everybody else, and no matter how hard you try to meet some complete stranger, someone in your circle of friends is bound to know him/her from somewhere ... so basically the bar scene is just 'hanging out with friends', just on a different level.

still, i have to say that everybody who comes to visit agrees that the bar scene in this particular city is something to remember. it's the inner city flare of century old buildings and new, totally cool bars - or the places that are known secrets and just awesome to be in. prices are okay, and if you know where to go, you're bound to meet really interesting (or at least hot) people and have a great time. it's not only the students who are out to have a fun time, everyone who lives here just gets sucked in to the bar scene, becasue the entire city is a bar scene, so it's all good ;)

wow, that tim is one angry dude.

i HATE the bar scene, but i live in l.a., where every guy is so NOT trying to talk to you/look in your general direction because he is ABSOLULTELY CERTAIN that Janet Jackson/Jennifer Lopez/Beyonce or some vaguely famous soft porn-star/video-ho will walk up to them, buy them a drink and have sex with them right at the bar.

and their homies all have camera phones to commemorize it.

but at least the weather's nice.
