Spice Girls: Droolworthy or Not?
January 31st, 2007 Posted in Culture (Pop & Otherwise)
While spending quality time watching VH1 the other day, a random thought enters my mind: maaaaan, why don’t they make bands like the Spice Girls anymore??? Remember them? Weren’t they great??? I’m no fool, and I know that several of you violent wretch at the mere thought of seeing those five bitches again. But, I can’t help it; I’m a fan. So, if you’d like a random (but wonderful) blast from the past, check out the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” video. Oh, and, please share your thoughts … Spice Girls: droolworthy or not droolworthy? I’m not their only fan, am I?

Not. They just irriated me a lot, altough I admit their songs were catchy as soon as they came out before they got overplayed and killed by the radio. You’re right though, there is a decline in power-pop bands like them now. To me, thats a good thing though!

God, I LOVE Spice Girls, but only the first two album when there were five. You can’t be the Spice Girls without some spicy Ginger.

I liked them…not individually but I liked them as a group. Their individual personalities got on my nerves but the music was catchy :)

You know I love ya, FBC, but I gotta give a big fat thumbs DOWN on this one. Might be because that one song (the one I’m trying not to sing in my head right now) always used to get stuck in my head for hours when it was all the rage.
DAMMIT! Now I’m singing it! #&*@%*^&*@… ;o)

Over-processed pop, in my opinion. Just a little too… smooth? I don’t know. They kinda bugged me, but I really liked that at the time of the Wannabe video they were all thin but really fit looking. Just really healthy. Not like ol’ Vicki Becks now. She’s a rail these days.

I must admit…I literally wanted to BE Scary Spice! I even saw their movie (I’m sure no one remembers they even had one!) with my best friend. I even used to wish I had a British accent. But you must cut me some slack b/c I was like 11 or 12 back then! I’ve changed, I swear!

Ah, the Spice Girls. They had some hits, man. Even though I admit when I first saw the “wannabe” video I was convinced it was a hoax, and they really had little talent spread amongst them, they won me over, with SpiceWorld of all things. I think it was Alan Cumming’s influence. Anything he puts his stamp on can’t be wrong! Also, they were catchy.

Darwin: Yeah, in general, I don’t like the sugary-sweet saccharine pop bands. But, damn if I didn’t love the Spice Girls! :)
Howard: I *knew* it. My baby Howard has GREAT taste.
History Chic: My favorites were Scary Spice and Gerri H.
AmyD: I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want. I wanna … I wanna … I wanna … I wanna really really really really really zig-a-zig-ahhhh! :)
MamaChristy: You’re soooo right! Beckham’s woman looks like a FREAK now. In the video, she actually looked healthy. Now, she looks like a really creepy bag of bones. She looked much better in this video.
cici: ME TOOO!!!!! I sooo wanted to be just like Scary Spice. I thought she was the coolest one on the group. And, she was so pretty. Who knew that she’s turn out to be Eddie Murphy’s baby momma (allegedly). :-)
sid: I met Alan Cumming at Tribeca last year. He had a film out, but I don’t remember which one it was …

Haha I used to love them!! I had both of their…casettes. That’s right, not CDs, tapes! Fantastic.
When I was in swim club, I also did an air band to them – “Stop,” and I was Baby Spice, of all people. How many Asians decide to be the one blonde girl in the group?!
I love having Old Music Parties and busting out the Spice Girls with BSB, 98 Degrees, Aqua and the like. Fun :)

Ooooh! 98 Degrees. That was the Nick Lachey band, wasn’t it? :)

Oh, oh, OH FBC!! Why? No Spice for me. Although, their songs were pretty catchy. But they were really NOT spice-y!

Scary spice… yummy… reminds me of the FBC, also quite scary…
But… what’s up with her and Eddie?!? Perhaps she really digs the new taboo you recently wrote about… I thought fer sure he was… ya know… into tight leather pants and New Edition’s Johnny G.
As far as other ‘talented’ girl groups go do you remember TATU? Who can forget ‘Malchik Gay’ and ‘Not gonna get us’ :P

Bro: You don’t know what you’re talking about, woman! They were GREAT!!! :-)
ErrorBoy: I remind you of Scary Spice? That’s interesting …

Yes, yes that was the Nick Lachey Band! I had a huge crush on him. And his younger brother, Drew. Yay, boy bands :)
