Six naughty women who read my blog (distar, firefly, donna, bro, cici, nics) have recently formed an alliance. They send me extremely menacing letters via email. “Look bitch,” they write, “you better go see that fucking movie The Last King of Scotland or we’re gonna Kick … Your … Ass!!!” Okay, okay, I exaggerate. Slightly. They didn’t really threaten to kick my ass (nor did they send me menacing emails) but, a week ago, these six women *DID* vote for Last King of Scotland on my little interactive “Vote for Your Oscar Pick” post. Thank you ladies. (Thank you, also, to everyone else who voted.)
I knew I was going to love The Last King of Scotland because I’m a huge fan of Forest Whitaker. This guy has been around for ages. And, although he has given strong performances as a diverse array of characters, he hasn’t really ever received the critic acclaim & recognition that he deserves. Until now. In The Last King of Scotland, Whitaker plays the role of crazyman dictator Idi Amin. I’m not going to do a full review of the film here because there are already plenty of great reviews out there on Rotten Tomatoes, BBC and elsewhere.
So, although I’m not doing a full review, I do want to talk about a couple of things that surprised me about the film. Three things, actually. #1. Forest Whitaker’s perfected accent, stature and everything else screams, “I’m that crazy African dictator!”; he’s surprisingly believable in the role. #2. Speaking of accents, I’m surprised how much the Scottish guy turned me on. Nice eyes. Sexy accent. Yummy. #3. I didn’t know that the film was going to be a thriller, so I was kind of surprised (in a good way) by that. If you haven’t seen the film, definitely check it out. If you’ve already seen it, what did you think?

I watched the movie last week and I loved it. Apparently the Scottish guy is from around these parts. Heres to hoping I’ll run into him at some point here in Glasgow! How COOL would that be?:)
That would be REALLY cool!!!!! :-)
Um…I still haven’t seen this particular film yet…but as for James McAvoy, he was Mr Tumnus in the Chronicles of Narnia and please check out Inside I’m Dancing, seriously, I wept buckets. And also, I work with a guy who is the spitting image of him but is from Belfast. Shall I send him over Stolie?
Very good choice!
YES!!!!! Send him my way!!!! :)
cici, thanks again for the suggestion. I really liked the movie.
I saw it last night and LOVED it!!!
Yeah, it was great! :)
By the way, when are you coming back to town, woman??? You know we’re serious about throwing the “Royals Party” for you, right? :)
