What Are You Doing for Valentine’s Day?

February 13th, 2007 Posted in Dating Roadkill

I’m a single woman New York City. I don’t have a boyfriend, partner, fuck buddy or any other type of being that has a penis attached to it. As such, I’m flying solo this Valentine’s Day. But, you know what? That’s okay.

Hmm … If you didn’t get a chance to listen to the live episode of Dating Roadkill last night, click the media player below to listen to the recorded podcast. We start off with sex columnist Rachel Kramer Bussel & author of The Great Sex Secret, Kim Marshall. And, before we wrap, we tell you ways to surprise your lover (or yourself) if you’re flying solo this Valentine’s Day.

But, there’s more to Valentine’s Day than sex, right? So, tell me … What are you doing to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year?

i am also completely and totally single, so i plan on doing drinks and salsa dancing with the girls. it’ll be nice to just get dressed up and go dancing… although, i am curious where all the single men will be on V-day.

  2. Darwin Says:

To be honest I’ve never celebrated it, single or not- I think it’s a mixture of cynicism and laziness, not a good combo for Hallmark! I confess I never do anything for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day either, and nicely enough my parents don’t expect it either, in fact I think they’d be quite puzzled if I did.

But as to what I’d be doing tomorrow, I think cinema with some flatmates. Eyes on ‘Notes on a Scandal’!

  3. El Says:

Bubba is taking me to my favorite restaurant, I got him a subscription for 3 months to the beer of the month club. Aww romance.

  4. Howard Says:

I’m going over to Cameron’s and he is making dinner and then we are going to avoid the crowds as much as possible. Watch a movie, just whatever the night brings up. :)

  5. ky Says:

One of my favorite local bands is playing that evening! So I’ll go and meet some friends there, and have a good time rocking out. They’re super rad and they’ll make me forget all about my breakup that happened over a month ago… Check them out at senateband.com

  6. cici Says:

My guy and I won’t be celebrating until he comes from back home in Ohio to DC to spend a week with me in March :-( Booo
But…until then I think I’ll eat candy and watch movies tomorrow!

  7. mel Says:

We wont be going out but our Valentines tradition involves a box of candy for daughter and I, waiting for us on top of the TV when we get up tomorrow morning. Just like my daddy used to do for my mom, and I and my three sisters.

  8. Susan Says:

this is an odd year for me – i’ve been dating someone almost 5 months and have chosen not to spend valentine’s day with him. he tends to leave everything until the last minute, and after two days of erratic phone texting (which i HATE) and no resolution as of last night, i decided to hang out with a really terrif guy who asked me out last week. me – “hot yoga” then dinner; he – pan-african film fest screening then late dinner. very first date-y, we’ll see what happens…

either way, i’m still buying some fabulous yarn online.

  9. Felicia Says:

Oh you mean Single Awareness day!!! Let me see….I plan on playing Valentines Bingo at work and then coming home and curling up with dogs while watching: Bones, American Idol, Criminal Minds, Lost, and CSI: NY

  10. FUNKY BROWN CHICK Says:

tara: Drinks and dancing sounds like fun! I was going to go to a Fuck Valentine’s Day dinner with a group of friends, but I’m having second thoughts. I kinda wanna just hang low this year.

Darwin: Notes on a Scandal is GOOOOOD! :-)

    El: That’s love.

    Howard: That sounds lovely. :)

    ky: Have fun!

cici: But, I guess it’s possible to celebrate your “valentine” on any day of the year …

mel: You know what? I actually REMEMBER you writing a post about that last year. It was one of the sweetest things that I’ve ever read on a blog.

Susan: The date sounds really interesting. Very cool

Felicia: Yeah. I know what you mean about watching TV. I’m kind of leaning toward that lately. I don’t really feel like being bothered with the whole Valentine’s Day stuff this year.

  11. Susan Says:

One more V-Day suggestion – volunteer at your local animal shelter! I did at the South Central branch over the weekend, donated stuff and passed out (Trader Joe’s) peanut butter biscuits to all the doggies up for adoption. LOTS of tail-wagging Valentine’s Day love there, and very much appreciated by all.

  12. FUNKY BROWN CHICK Says:

Awwww! What a cute idea. :)

this is my first comment here or on any blog! i usually don’t comment because i’m a voyuer (what can i say) but i have to share this with someone, anyone…I HATE VALENTINE’S DAY! next to new years eve, it’s my 2nd most hated holiday. if you’re single, it’s a whole day (really a whole month) of constant reminders that you are alone and if you’re in a relationship, the pressure to be romantic is damn near unbearable…i’m done, back to lurking…

  14. FUNKY BROWN CHICK Says:

    Yay!!!! Thanks for delurking!!!!! :)
