Who’s Your Favorite Best-kept Secret?
February 28th, 2007 ·
One of the amazing things about New York City is the incredible amount of art available for public consumption. At any hour of any day, you could take in more independent film, avant-garde paintings and performance art than most American cities offer throughout the entire calendar year. Sure, New York is home to heavy-hitters like the huge theater houses on Broadway, museums like MoMA & the Guggenheim and other cultural venues. But, there’s also a lot of lesser known — but talented — stuff (artists & venues) out there too. Take Terence Nance, for example. “Who the hell is he?” you might ask. Well, Terence Nance is a young, up-and-coming filmmaker in New York City. No worries. I’d never heard of him either until a couple of days ago when I saw his short film called “How Would You Feel?” It’s fun, smart and witty. Here, I found the trailer (running time: 50 seconds) on YouTube:
I’ve never met Terence Nance. And, I haven’t seen any of his other work yet. Doesn’t matter. He slowly becoming one of my favorite “best-kept secrets” in New York City. Keep an eye out for this guy. So, now it’s your turn. What about you? Do you have any favorite best-kept secret filmmakers, indie rock bands, writers, or actors? Feel free to use the comment section to plug their (or your) work. Introduce us to someone, something or some group that you find new and exciting.

Hi, I'm

I’m finally back lady. A lot clearer. Anyway was trying to catch up and saw pic of dude in thong. Thank you for making me upchuck my coffee. OMG, ewww. FBC I miss you and am ready for lunch whenever you are.
YAY!!! Let’s text or email or call sometime to set up something for next week. My friend Kar-Kar is in town for the weekend, so things are gonna be a little wild for the next few days. Me? I’m an angel. Her? Well, she’s a wild one!! :)
By the way, trust me, it did not go unnoticed that *NONE* of you shared the name of your favorite unknown / not-so-popular band, artist, etc.
SELFISH!! You’re all very selfish little devils.
So, fine! Go ahead and keep it all to yourselves. See if I care. :-)
Um, well I would have shared my best-kept secret, but I only do *private* screenings, so I’d thought I’d just be teasing… ;o)
At first I thought that lovely lady in the vid was you with that fantastic hair. Guess it wasn’t, though. Boooo! Ha!
It took me a loooong time to think of this one but….my best kept secret is probably British artist Jamie Cullum…everytime I ask someone if they’ve heard of him they haven’t. I only have his album “twentysomething” which came out a few years back but I still luv it. Oh yea and if you haven’t already, rent that movie “The Oh in Ohio” it was kinda funny, I watched the other night.
AmyD: I’m not the woman in the video. But, yeah, I agree, she’s pretty.
cici: YAY!!! Two secrets!!! :-) I’ve never heard of Jamie Cullum; love new stuff. And, I’ll check to see if “The Oh in Ohio” is available on Netflix. I’ve never hear of it, but I love film and, of course, I adore my beloved little Midwest.
