What Makes You Happy?
The other day, one of my super-fabulous readers sent me a very nice, sweet and encouraging message about job searching. In his email, he also asked me a question that made me think. “What is it,” he asks, “that makes you tick? What makes you happy?” I thought about it and here are a few of my answers (in no particular order):
1. Writing
2. Creating art
3. Sunny weather
4. Happy people
5. Success
6. Progressive politics
7. Chocolate
8. Travel

10. Smiling faces
11. My nephews
12. My friends
13. My sister
14. New York City
15. Self-awareness
16. Growth
17. Surprises
18. Fashion
19. Kisses
20. Ocean views
21. Beaches
22. Bare flesh
23. Paintings
24. Art
25. Interesting film
26. Buttery popcorn

… and the list goes on. So, tell me, what makes *YOU* happy?

getting on the subway when the train arrives. or, when a cab doesn’t keep hitting the brakes on every red light but times it just right so it turns green by the time he gets to the intersection.

that warm relaxed atmosphere you get after a long dinner with family and/or friends where you just talk and laugh about life in general and simply enjoy each other’s company.
summer evening’s in town where you end up meeting everyone and his aunt and come home way later than expected with incredible stories to tell.
reading/seeing/hearing something that makes you laugh so hard that it just makes your day.

Success. Chocolate. Reading a good book. Listening to a good song. Watching a good movie. Spending time with people I like. Sleep. Baking. Getting what I want. Vacation/holiday. Chocolate (it deserves a double mention me thinks!).

Sleeping in makes me very happy. Going to bed at night knowing I can sleep in the next day makes me even happier. Apparently sleep is important to me. As is chocolate. And cheesecake. And did I mention chocolate? (In case I’d forgotten, I see Darwin has it covered.)

melo: Ooooh, both of those make me happy, too! Especially the subway thing.
Firefly: GOOD ONES!
Darwin: My favorite in your list? Getting what I want.
Stefanie: Years ago, I went to a really good exhibition on chocolate at the Field Museum in Chiacago. Museums such do stuff like that more often.
Pegs: I totally forgot all about travel!! :-) Speaking of which, when’s your next trip to New York??? We haven’t seen the married version of you yet.
HippieChyck: Can I tell you how much I *LOVE* your entire list?? :-)
