That F*%king Green, Blinking DSL Light

March 19th, 2007 Posted in Blogging, Open Letters

Dear Beloved FBC Readers:

St. Patrick’s Day wasn’t the only thing that was green this past weekend. As a few of you know, I have been without my DSL for almost a week. The problem continues, and the green DSL light on my modem is still blinking. If you wanna hear the full story, I wrote a post about it on Nerve today. [Link: The Customer Wants to Kick Your Ass.] At any rate, I’m supposed to be back up and running tomorrow. So expect the regular, daily postings here at the FBC to return then. (I’ll also respond to as many of your emails as I can then as well.)

In the meantime, if you’ve been here at the FBC before, you may have noticed that I recently added an “email this” link to the bottom of my posts. You all use different browsers, operating systems, etc. So, I’d totally appreciate it if you’d like to help me test drive the new link by emailing a post to a friend. Not sure which post to send? Here are a few suggestions:

To email one of the posts above: (1) Click the link above, then click the “email this” link at the bottom of that post. (2) Fill in any details & hit ’send it now’. If you get an error message, shoot me an email to let me know and I’ll try to fix the problem. (By the way, if this is your first time here at FUNKYBROWNCHICK.com: welcome to the blog!)

xoxo,
Funky Brown Chick

PS: I miss you, my sweeties!!! Can’t wait to get my DSL back. :-(

Ha ha, I tried e-mailing myself an article and it worked just fine.. that’s a fun personalised message I got!
I was gonna leave you a message at the nerve about the other post, but it’s such a pain to login and stuff.. yuck!

I was gonna say that when I got my dsl at home it was just hell. I got a special offer of paying some pennies for the first “I don’t know how many” months. From the very beggining everything worked awful. Sometimes I tried to browse sth, chat or whatever but it didn’t work, OUT OF THE BLUE. The reason was because the signal was weak. After like a week of screaming obsenities to customer service, a technician came to my house and changed the whole, I don’t know.. 10-12 feet, of cable and wanted to change the modem as well but he wasn’t given permission. It did get a litlle better, but everyday I sit at the computer and I’m afraid the whole thing won’t start. Especially today, I had to register for a class via Internet and I was so afraid that it wouldn’t, they only take 40 people, stupid school-In the end, I could do it, DSL was my friend today!
The other story was that I setted the bill to be payed by my credit card just to forget about so much crap. I forgot to mention that the company is the same as my cable provider but I started getting 2 bills, Ok.. that’s cool. The thing is that one was for the TV cable and half of the DSL and the other one was for the other half of the DSL.. whatta mess.. why do they do that?

Hopefully everything will work just fine tomorrow, right? I’m still waiting for that story you’d promised like a week ago

Keep screaming obsenities, they’ll fix that shit up eventually

I have to admit i haven’t tried your “email this” button because I just read your “How to Make Boobs Look Perky” thread and simply HAD to respond.

Ladies – DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT buy cheap bras and panties! Those cute lacy things you see at Victoria Secret and H&M are good for the fifty seconds you parade them around your sweetie, but NOTHING will ruin a great suit faster than cheap, unpredictably ill-fitting, lacy-racy underwear – and that’s for ANY cup/hip size. And yes, as one of your commenters noted, this is especially true for workout bras – remember they should be firm and snug to keep any bouncing to a minimum (and thus preserve perkiness). Panties should be cotton; nuff said.

In my experience the shelf life of a VicSec bra is about 18 months before it starts to melt (serieously, the elastic starts doing strange things) and you absolutely cannot machine wash or dry them, which isn’t a good idea for any fine washable. I have found the best, longest lasting and most beautiful selection at Nordstroms nationwide (a wide range of prices, styles and functionality and a great staff) and Bloomie’s or Saks in the city (pun intended).

Shopping for lingerie is always more fun than buying underwear and DKNY and Calvin Klein are very au currant, but for long-wearing stuff it is better to go old skool – Wacoal has been around for eons and La Mystere is also consistently good (fabulous t-shirt bras and convertibles) and yes, sexy enough for any surprise disrobing. ;) You’ll pay about $50 a pop, but it’s a very sound investment – for every Great Suit or Dress you have in your wardbrobe, make sure you have corresponding “foundationals.” You won’t be sorry.

I had a cheap VicSec underwire bra stab me in the middle of a production meeting once. NOT cute, and never again.

La Perla is a whole ‘nother addiction…

Felicia: It’s Tuesday morning. STILL no DSL. :-(

Nat: Glad to know the email thing worked for you. So far, no problems. I think I installed the plugin and set everything up okay.

Susan: Oh, I’ve been stabbed on more than one occassion by faulty bra underwires. It’s not a plesant feeling. But, still, I’m sticking to my guns on the inexpensive underwear. I’ve got H&M bras that have lasted quite a while. Besides, I’m not a Big Boobie Girl so there’s not a lot of wear and tear when I’ve got the girls strapped down. Man, I could probably get away with just wearing two little band-aids. I’m not *that* small, but I am an A cup … ahem, that’s a ***FULL*** A cup. I stopped wearing training bras in college. ;-)

  5. Susan Says:

Ah, you’re one of those mouthful girls. I’ve been a c/d since 8th grade; haven’t been able to run down a set of stairs braless since. Probably the last time i paid under $20 bucks for one, too.

  6. Matt Says:

I’m a little high right now but, still, that’s pretty fucking funny.

  7. Nat Says:

WTF?? Don’t u tell me they haven’t fixed your DSL?!?!?! OMG!!!
    Miss hearing from ya

It’s now Thursday, FBC…. I need my fix! stat!

  9. Darla Mack Says:

Lol hey girl!!! Just when I try to get all in the know your DSL stops working… but here’s a thought, at least you have DSL. I don’t have shit here in the sticks!!!

Looking forward to hearing from ya!

  10. FUNKY BROWN CHICK Says:

Susan: Yep, I’m small and I’m proud. But, I must admit that I do occassionally make use of non-boobjob-boobjob enhancements.

Matt: Are you still laughing? :-)

Nat: Yep, they **STILL** haven’t fixed my DSL. I’m gonna write about it tomorrow and update you on the madness that has been my internet-free life for the past 1.5 – 2 weeks. :-(

tonito bandito: I’ll be back tomorrow, my sweetie!!! :-) I’m limping along as best as I can without my DSL. Trust me. Nobody hates this situation more that I do right now.

Darla Mack: I’ll be back first thing Friday morning. I’ve worked out a “patch” of sorts to help get me through this. I can’t believe it’s been almost *2* weeks and they **STILL** haven’t fixed it.
