Matt Damon: Droolworthy or Not?
Has anyone else noticed that Matt Damon looks an awful lot like that kid who played “Opie” in the Andy Griffith Show? Wait. Back up. Maybe a better question is: Does anyone know what the Andy Griffith Show is? The only reason that I know about AGS is because I used to sit and watch television with my grandma when I was a little girl. Second only to rasslin‘, old reruns of the Andy Griffith Show were my grandma’s favorite things to watch on television. I was a kid, so I don’t remember much about the show, but I do remember two things. The reruns were in black and white ( … a fact that made me wonder: how old is grandma?? …). And, secondly, there was a little kid named “Opie” on the show. As I grew older and Matt Damon made his splash on the big screen, I remember thinking that Damon must be related to Opie because they look an awful lot alike. In my mind, I invented a world where Opie grew up and fathered Matt Damon with some random Irish chick *BUT* — much like Eddie Murphy — Opie had a hard time claiming little Matty as his own for one reason or another.
But, alas, fact wasn’t as interesting as fiction this time. “Opie” is actually “Ron Howard”, and Matt Damon is in no way shape or form related to the guy. To my knowledge, they’ve never even worked together. In any case, that aside, let’s get down to the really important stuff today. Manly Monday.
Today, as with every Monday, we explore some topic related to men and/or profile a particular man. Today’s pick? Matt Damon. Why? Because I went to see “The Bourne Ultimatum” during its opening night at the standing-room-only Regal E-walk theater in Times Square. As I sat in my seat with my eyes glued to the action-packed screen, I couldn’t help but think: “Yeah, sure, Damon looks all buffed out right now, but he’s gonna end up looking like Opie / Ron Howard in a few years.” So, then I wondered … Is it really worth getting all hot and bothered now about a man who is eventually going to end up looking like a cheerier version of Vincent van Gogh later? I don’t know. But, because it’s Manly Monday, I’ll ask you all to use the comment section below to answer this question: Is Matt Damon droolworthy … or not?

VERY. I suppose it doesn’t hurt that people tell my cutie fiance’ all the time that he looks like Mr. Damon. ;o)
But OPIE?? Ahahahaa! Girl, you are hilarious! I love your imagination; it never disappoints…

not droolworthy. but the movie was fun…

Hey, *I* remember Andy Griffith, and I’m not *that* old! Well, actually I am. That sucks major groin.
Unfortunately, I’m not qualified to judge droolworthiness of guy actors – I’m a guy myself, so the best I can tell is whether or not a guy is tremendously funny looking or fugly. So, I can generally judge somebody like Marty Feldman (funny looking) or Rodney Dangerfield (fugly), but for guys like Matt Damon the best I can say is “well, he’s not fugly or funny looking”. Sorry, you’ll have to get some chick feedback.

AmyD: The picture posted on your website was taken from a couple feet away, and I couldn’t see all of the details in CL’s face. But, if you say he looks like Damon, I believe you! :-)
simplyd23: I *LOVED* the movie. It was definitely the best Bourne so far.
Baba Doodlius: Dude feedback is just as nice as chick feedback! :)

*I’m* not saying he looks like him, I’m just saying lots of people say he looks like him. Personally, I think my guy is MUCH cuter. ;o) But thanks! Ha!
August 6th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
No no no!! he is NOT drool worthy! You called it, he is very much Ron Howard. Has a great smile, but he’s a bit too Howdy Doody Time for my liking.
August 6th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
100 percent droolworthy :). Thanks FBC for writing the post.
August 6th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
AmyD: No prob, babes! :)
Tavolini: Ooooh! That’s TWO votes for not droolworthy and only ONE vote for droolworthy. (And, one for neither “fugly” nor “funny looking”.
Mags: Yeah, you *know* how hard it was for me to post this one because we talked about this on the phone the other night. I’ll save the guy that I was going to do today for next Monday. By the way, we now have a tie: 2 say droolworthy. 2 say not droolworthy. It will be interesting to see which side wins out. :)

I say driikworthy. He’s very… accessable, unlike many other big Hollywood stars. I think that’s why people think he isn’t hot. If he were the boyfriend of someone we knew, we’d think he was smokin’, I think.
August 6th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
um, droolworthy, not “driikworhty”. That’s something COMPLETELY different.
August 6th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
When I read your comment I thought, “ooooh, MamaC has a *dirty* mind!!!” ;)
August 6th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
I sincerely hope that I am not driikworthy.
August 6th, 2007 at 5:28 pm
I don’t think he’s droolworthy. But what do I know? I never found Brad Pitt all that droolworthy either. I prefer to drool over Mark Wahlberg.
August 6th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
I’d say he’s droolworthy but not for me. He reminds me far too much of an old crush so I try not to look at him on screen.
On an unrelated note…will you be in NYC in and around Halloween?
August 6th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
I never really drooled over M. Damon, but people tell my honey he looks like M. Damon, too. I can see a resemblance. I think my husband is much cuter, anyhow.
FBC, you be the judge: Does my man or AmyD’s look more like Matt Damon?
August 7th, 2007 at 10:32 am
Very drool worthy but only since the Bourne trilogy.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:38 am
Baba Doodlius: Driikworthy can be a good thing, no?
Phoena: I **LOVED** seeing Mark Walhberg in the Calvin Klein underwear ads. Remember those? Feel it! Feel it!!! Feel the vibrations!!! :-)
Nics: I will def be here in NYC during Halloween. Are you coming???? That would be great!!! :)
Pegs: Oooooh, I’m not going to be the judge on that one. I’ve only seen both of the guys in photos; I’ve met neither.
Alicia: Agreed! It’s like he took a hot pill or something. Kinda like Brad Pitt. He didn’t do *ANYTHING* for me … until I saw him in Fight Club. :)

Not only do I remember Andy Griffith, but my local CBS affiliate shows it every weekday at 5:30!
And Matt Damon, is totally droolworthy, because he’s got the hotness now, and he’s also had the good sense to be an actor and a celebrity without being in our faces constantly with his stupid ego and mistakes! (btw, this is budholly101 from nerve, hi!)
August 9th, 2007 at 10:07 am
Hi, budholly!!! :) Thanks for checking out my blog.
I’m haven’t seen Andy Griffith show in ages, but I do remember a bit about it from the time that I used to watch it.
Hmmm … another vote for droolworthy, huh? :) By the way, I *TOTALLY* agree with you about Damon not being in our faces all of the time. He’s more of an “actor” than a “movie star”. For his buddy Affleck, it seems to be the other way around.
August 10th, 2007 at 10:08 am
He’s not my cup of tea ..
August 10th, 2007 at 10:30 am
I’m loving it that–based on the comments received thus far–the group is pretty much split 50/50 on Matt Damon!
August 14th, 2007 at 3:19 am
I don’t think I’ll tip the scales in favor of either direction as I think he’s only droolworthy in the Bourne flicks. Otherwise, icky!
August 14th, 2007 at 8:51 am
Yeah, he did *nothing* for me in Good Will Hunting and the crappy movies (Legend of Beggar Whatever, Talented Mr. Ripley, etc.)
