Hi, I’m “Lenny”
First and foremost, THANK YOU to all the wonderful folks who voted on a new name for my laptop. And, of course, a special thank you goes out to all of the shy folks who delurked themselves and posted a comment for that very very special occasion. I wasn’t joking when I said that I would name my laptop which ever name you guys chose. So, the results are in and … drum roll, please … Lenny the Laptop it is. It was a very very close race. Lenny voters: Firefly, AmyD, Darwin, NerdGirl, Mags, Steph and Grizzbabe. Prince voters: JonE, JP, MamaChristy, zstarr, KrisTLove. In the end, it was a choice between looks vs. performance. The majority of you chose looks. I love it! “Taye” was third runner up. Taye voters: Denise, Carolina Pereira, Stefanie and Mel. “Paul” only received on vote, and it was from Bexxie. But, if you count MamaChristy’s original vote, I guess, technically, Paul received two votes. “Kanye” received no votes.
I’d like to take a moment to pay special attention to the super-creative people who came up with write-in candidates. Baba Doodlius humbly suggested that I name the new guy “Baba”. Felicia picked “Cue=T”. Grace suggested Pharrell or Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Renay suggested an equally hot name with “Beckham”. Down with hot and up with sexy, Seren said: “Sexual Chocolate”. Lala liked “James Earl Jones” because he’s living proof that “you don’t need to be young and sleek to be sexy.” (VERY good point!) Crazyleprechauns voted for Barney. And, when Phoena said, “Why does it have to be named for a man? If you want it to be dependable and able to multitask, name it after a woman!”, CL replied, “IF you name it after a woman, expect it to be a bit twitchy, temperamental and illogical 5 days a month :P”
The most inspiring write-in vote came from Shegoestoeleven. “How about nominating the black writer, James Baldwin?” she suggested. “ You are a writer, and a very talented one at that, so the name James might be an inspiration. Of course James Baldwin was gay, but that shouldn’t matter. He WAS thin, small, stylish, talented and brave as heck. James gets my vote!” Pegs agreed. And, you know what? I agree, too. If the popular vote goes to Lenny, the inspired vote goes to James. So, thus, I now present you with “Lenny James” or “Lenny the Laptop” for short.
Yeah, so, um, Lenny has a webcam. I’ve been playing with it but, obviously, I still haven’t quite figured it out yet. :-) And, I couldn’t figure out how to embed it straight to my site, so I uploaded it to YouTube and posted the code here. I’m sure there’s an easier way to go about it, but that works for now.

Lenny! Awesome. Not as awesome as Prince (but then, what is), but awesome none the less. Lenny was… respectable but not fantastic when I saw him in concert years ago. Paulie was still my second choice, but Lenny the Laptop has a nice ring to it.

Yeah, I soooo have no clue when it comes to the webcam. I’ll eventually play with it and figure it out at some point.
And, yes, I hope that Lenny and I are together for at least 4 – 5 years. I’ve got a three-year warranty, so we’re bound to each other for at least a little while. :)

Yeah, I soooo don’t know what I’m doing with the video stuff yet. I think I needed to adjust the resolution or whatever because the text was blurry and the timing was off on the video.
Once I figure a bit more of it out, I’ll post another video. It will be fun to compare the “before she knew what she was doing” with the “after she knew”. :)

Okay, like, I’m sooo not up to speed with the video stuff yet. I don’t even know what “60 fps” means. :) I’ll figure it out and post another one soon. I’m a fast learner. (In more ways than one.)
