@ Andy: Ah, Paradise Now. Good choice in movies, my friend. Glad you like Lord of War. It's great isn't it? By the way, what's this "matinee" thing of which you speak?? Almost nonexistent here in the Big Apple.

@ Bianca Reagan: I remember him in Good Will Hunting, but he didn't really do anything for me back then. I never found him attractive until recently.

Thanks for the Gone Baby Gone mini-review. I've liked Ben as an artiste since Good Will Hunting and had my fingers crossed that he would get back in the saddle with a decent project. (If winning an Oscar for screenplay is a high point, I daresay "Reindeer Games" is a low.) I haven't been to the movies in over a year. I don't even remember what I saw. My Netflix queue hasn't been updated in six (count 'em!) months. The best DVD I've seen in the last year was "Paradise Now." Yes, that's how long it's been.

BUT you led me on the right path with "Lord of War," and I'm sure you're right about Gone. Besides, I like Dennis Lehane's books a lot.

Matinees go until 6 pm around here--yes, even on the weekends. A matinee will run you about $6. Probably the best deal in the country and one of the few advantages of living in the South.

@ Darwin: Haven't seen Darjeeling Limited yet, but I've heard great things. I *LOVE* Jason Schwartzman, and Wes Anderson movies are usually really interesting (Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums). So, tickets are £5 for you? Not bad.

@ Baba Doodlius: Disappointed? Really. :( I heard that one was good. I love Javier Bardem. I think I'll go for the eye candy. And, yes, penguins are VERY cool. :)

@ grampa: You're soooo luck that you live in Hawai'i. It's a beautiful place, and I loved my visit there a couple of years ago. But, yeah, everything can be pretty pricey because it all has to be shipped in.

@ MamaChristy: Every now and then, my sister gets a babysitter for the kids and does a "date night" at the movies with her husband. You and the man deserve a movie night. :)

I thought $8 a ticket was expensive! And $6.50 for MILK?!? That would break our budget right there! I don't get to see movies in the theatre anymore. *sigh*

I saw Gone, but I was sick, and on medicine and fell asleep during the film.

At the little one movie theater in my little no-stop light town, the 100 year old Honoka'a People's Theatre, it costs 6 bucks.

That's right, six bucks.

I saw "No Country", and I was a little disappointed. It wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't great, just "pretty good". It was a weird kind of story, which is to be expected, and it certainly wasn't typical Hollywood stuff, but it didn't knock my socks off like it seemed to do to all the reviewers. Good acting all around, though, and lots of good lines, so worth seeing for those things.

I've seen Atonement, I wasn't overly impressed. I don't think they adapted the book very well. The first part was excellent and set up the story quite well but then the battle scene seemed quite out of place and it didn't seem to fit in very well. Just my two cents worth anyway!

Have you seen The Darjeeling Limited yet? Excellent movie:). I watched the Golden Compass last week simply because I *LOVE* Philip Pulman's books but the movie was def just another kids movie with lots of CGI (as opposed to the books which are just..wow). Tickets are priced at about £5 on average, since you asked!
