“A Guide to Embracing Life as a Single …”

Given our recent discussion (see: Monday’s comments section) about single life, I thought I’d share a New York Times article excerpt with y’all:

[A] new Web site, SingleEdition.com, wants nothing more than to embrace [singles]. And unlike dating sites that treat being single as a predicament, this one celebrates flying solo, and offers shopping, financial and other advice to help them do so with pride.

“If you Google the term ‘single,’ all that comes up is dating, dating, dating,” said Sherri Langburt, a founder of SingleEdition.com. “But what we’re saying is there’s a whole other realm of things that go on for a single person that are not dating.”

Articles on the site give advice on how to entertain in small apartments (have cheese- or chocolate-tasting parties instead of sit-down meals), how to cook for one (try freezing homemade soup in ice trays to simplify defrosting single portions) and how to select gifts for other singles (perhaps an audio book or a G.P.S. device to help a solo driver).

Swing over to SingleEdition.com for all kinds of great info about you own personal table for one. Ah, the singles life. I have my ups and down. I make mistakes. I sometimes feel lonely. I date men I probably shouldn’t, and I think I self-sabotage relationships without even knowing that I’m doing until months (sometimes years) later. That said, I still wouldn’t trade my single and dating life for anyone else’s. So, if you like SingleEdition.com, check out my Q&A interview. Yep, they got down with the funky brown!!!! Read: Chocolate, wine tasting and museum visits. No wonder Twanna has fallen in love with single living! And, speaking of chocolate, tonight I’ve been invited to a special chocolate tasting down by Wall Street. Yum! Wanna come? I’ll Twitter the details. Follow along with me.

Your Q & A has helped me more tremendously that you know, today. I struggle daily with accepting my current (and seemingly everlasting) state of singledom as well as not being where I’d like to be career wise. Thank you! Immensely, thank you!

No Twit out for you, eh? I’ll check it out after midnight. Nice Q & A. A little more insight into the mind of FBC. :)

    well…. I play music…. a lot… and with travel and gigs…… I have’nt really slowed
down enough to embrace the present scene….. just how deep is it out there…..
yeah…. am not kidding….. music brings something to the table, but I dont sample
the menu…… women are sooooo cool, but ya’ll carry yourselves real deep….. if I had the time…. well…. for now it’s music and cars……. when I play, I go to some
altered states of flight and when I drive or get seat time to burn the berm, I think.
so I kinda keep myself busy….. what is there …out there… for me to slow down..
for ….. yeah…. am lonely …. bad…. and a little scared…. still… been ripped sideways not too long ago….. some think since you are in music and on the move
that you get more butt than a toilet seat…… nope…. not happening….. Ladies
make me like Pralines and Cream….. and a cool brandy…….. very good to jazz
the night away….. but since I’m on the move…. I cannot go deep….. would
love to slooooow down, but while you chase dreams….. life watches… but
never waits… so… as I asked in the beginning .. just how deep is it out there..

    lamesabassman…………. ” and …. the jungle wept..”

@ Haute in LA: No prob at all, babes!!

@ Roddykat: Okay, so, here’s what happened. I arrived at the party and the most AWESOME woman ever whisked me away to the private little back room. I got to see how and where they make the chocolates. I met and swapped smooches with the amazingly fabulous John Down from Christopher Norman Chocolates.

@ lamesabassman: You said, “While you chase dreams, life watches but never waits.” Interesting!

    ” While you chase dreams
    life watches,but, never waits
    She just keeps in mind
    that in due time
what you wish for does’nt rate
    and what you receive
    is best regards,signed, Fate
    for as you stare
    into the Looking Glass
    you see yourself inside
    moving within the circle
    with nothing left to hide
    so, with great care
    and tender mercies
you open your eyes to see
    while you chase your dreams
Life watches…; but, never giving you
the chance to let it be…… ”

    lamesabassman……… it ain’t easy being me,’cause it’s hard being free…..
