Where in the World Are You?

May 28th, 2008 Posted in Reader Appreciation Day

I’m always amazed (and flattered!) that people take time out of their day to get down with the funky brown by visiting my site. Who are you? Where are you? And, by “you” I mean, seriously, *YOU* — the pair of anonymously sexy eyes reading these words right now. I know you’re here. My site traffic statistics tell me when you came, what you looked at and how long you stayed. But, you don’t want to share yourself with me. :( The vast majority of you (”yous” … hey, it’s New York) drop by, but you don’t say hi. So, why don’t we turn this Reader Appreciate Day into a “welcome mat” today? Come out and play with the rest of the readers. You don’t have to say anything especially clever, witty or funny. Just say hi, and tell me where in the world you are right now. I’m curious. So, here, I’ll even kick things off for us: “Hey there! It’s a sunny 56°F right now, and I’m in Manhattan.” Now, you …

    Hi!

I hadn’t heard of your blog until I saw the video of you talking to Zoe Margolis on her website. Your post has prompted me to say hi! I know what you mean, it’s nice just to know who’s looking at your site. I’ll have a read through some of you archives, looks like an interesting blog.

  2. Wendy Juniper Says:

Oh dear…I forgot to put where I am in the world- i’m not with it today! I’m in Manchester, England. It’s kinda drizzly, grey and rainy- the norm!

  6. Nicole Says:

… and I’m fidgeting back and forth per usual deciding whether or not to post.

I’m Nicole. I’m in New York, NY. Semi-originally from Memphis, TN…

Don’t sweat the mayor thing mrsbigg!!! Mayor Herenton (Memphis) puts all the mayors to shame with illegitimate kids, a corrupt crew of city officials on his crew, and the occasional cursing out of the media. He was mayor from like ‘91 to.. hell, he JUST stepped down! I totally recommend doing a search on Wikipedia. Entertaining! :-p

  7. Pat Says:

    I’m in sunny Ft. Lauderdale!

  30. Grace Says:

Long time lurker. Started commenting more often recently. Of course my ‘comments’ tend to be these epic long posts. I keep waiting to get an email from FBC that basically says ‘I’m sure you’re nice and everything but stop blogging in the comments of my blog. GET YOUR OWN BLOG!’

Toronto Canada here getting down with the FBC on a regular basis

…hey that was a short one for once. YAY!

  31. Rog Says:

Good morning from CO. Love your Blog. Cheers!

  32. Choc man Says:

I hope to chat soon.

  33. Phoena Says:

Hi! I don’t post much but I read often. I think I found your site through a blogroll link on someone else’s site. I’m in Texas these days, but I’ve lived all sorts of places.

My New Yorker friends say I have a “funny accent” but I keep reminding them mine is the “lack of accent” and that’s what sounds funny to them!

  34. courtney Says:

@ mrsbigg & Nicole: Oooooooh, let’s not start a Mayoral Showdown. Illinois politics in general *RULES* that arena:

I’m out in the Pacific Northwest…Seattle, Washington. (and no, I don’t like Starbucks, and yes, it does rain occaisionally)

  37. Eileen Says:

    Hey,

I was a New Yorker until 4 months ago. Now I’m in Sydney, Australia. New on the blog, found you through my recent foray into Twitter (via unspeakableaxe), and definitely enjoying reading you.

  38. Wendy Juniper Says:

Haha I can’t believe you know the Man City/ Man U division! I’d have to be United, though even then i’m only picking that because they are they only ones I know about- my BF tells me whether I want to know or not! I wish I had more interest in football, it’s such a big thing over here, life would be easier if i had more interest! It seems to run some people’s lives over here, but i’ve many other things i’d rather spend my time on if i’m honest!

Yeah Zoe is very entertaining, been reading a little of you blog and you are too!

  39. lamesabassman...... Says:

yo, Baba, ya double parked in the Silver Surfer spot and you did’nt feed the meter and he got the bill……

I can put you up at my place on the dark side of the Moon…. he hates it there…

lamesabassman…….. Canada rules….. ’til the beer runs out…..

  40. Kali Says:

Currently in Maryland – D.C. Metro Area. Wow! Isn’t the net great, you have “people” from all over.

  41. passionblack904 Says:

born and living in Jacksonville, FL, I came across your blog from NPR News and Notes a few days ago….your boldest just to be plain honest

  42. Baba Doodlius Says:

lamesabassman: The dark side of *which* moon? There are lots of them. Jupiter alone has over 60, and Saturn has anywhere from 50 to over 1,000, depending on how strict your definition of “moon” is. Hell, even little bitty Mars has two of them.

By the by, Silver Surfer would be a lot more popular if he was green.

  43. lamesabassman...... Says:

soooo …. you’re kinda like me…. out there… kinda thought Earth’s Moon… it’s closer… and we would have first land rights since no one( that we know of) has been there for a good while…. any statute of limitations we should know about…
and food venues… to Taco or Starbucks, is that a question.. or a tax write off…
besides… with fuel prices the way they are… can’t go too far to hide…
    cool comeback Mr.D…..

P.S. have you checked Ol’ Silver’s spot on the Dow Jones… he’s 2 green 2 care
lamesabassman….. happy trails….. and the last one buys.

  44. betageek Says:

De-lurk. Slightly west of Phoenix by way of Boston, Ann Arbor, Chicago and Kyoto. Headed back east sooner rather than later. Have been lurking either here or (less frequently) round the corner at Nerve for awhile now.

[And just like that, he was gone.]

  45. Olivia Says:

    London, England me =)

  46. carla Says:

I come by sometimes and read all of the posts that i have missed. Then I laugh at some of the amusing observations you make. I live in Allen TX a suburb of Dallas, living this thing we call life.

    ok bsvk to lurking now

  47. funkybrownchick Says:

@ Sultana: Hey there! :) I’m been to SF, but that’s the only place I’ve been on the Pacific Northwest. I hear Seattle’s beautiful and, of course, rainy.

@ Eileen: Ah, yes, Unspeakable Axe! One of my fellow New Yorkers! :) That’s cool you’re in Australia. Wondering if you’re originally from there and then moved back or maybe you’re a New Yorker who chucked it all to move to Oz — for love, maybe? That would be a cute story.

@ Wendy Juniper: OF COURSE!!! :) I lived in England. You’re a good woman to pick Utd. If you’re not a football fan yet, it might grow on you. I wasn’t a fan AT ALL. Then, I got swept away because I was there during the World Cup when Beckham got sent off. ( http://funkybrownchick.com/2008/03/28/how-i-became-a-soccer-fan/ ) Euro 2008 is right around the corner. Get ready. It’s gonna be a mad house over there in a hot second. :) And, yeah, I soooo can’t wait until Zoe gets here. She’s great!

    @ lamesabassman: Enjoy Canada.

@ Kali: Welcome to the blog! :) And, yeah, I love it that folks are reading this from all the various little pockets of the world.

    @ passionblack904: Thanks! I’ll take that as a compliment. :)

@ Baba Doodlius: You’re funny!!! WHICH moon?? :)

@ betageek: Thanks for delurking!! :) And, boy you’ve got an interesting life map, don’t you? Boston, Ann Arbor, Chicago and Kyoto. Love it. :) Thanks again for popping up to say hi!!

    @ Olivia: I love London!

@ carla: “Living this thing we call life.” Very cute! BTW, I love my Texan readers. There are quite a few of you down there. Texas is down with the Funky Brown!!! :)

  48. Megs Says:

I also found you via the Girl… where am I? The Caribbean.. Cayman Islands! Where am I from? Most recently, Scotland, but I wouldn’t say I’m scottish. Enjoying the blog on days like today when its miserable and rainy.. for the first time in 8 weeks… :) Keep up the good work!

  49. Roddykat Says:

@FBC: A little late, but this just occurred to me. I forgot to mention how I came across your site. It was through Twitter. I believe it was around or before SXSW. I hope to go one of these days.

  50. funkybrownchick Says:

@ Megs: Cayman Islands? FUN! Thanks for the encouragement, by the way!

@ Roddykat: I *LOVE* SXSW!!! :) The folks down in Austin are tons of fun. I was on Twitter before SXSW, but I got even more addicted to it there because EVERYONE was on it.

  51. Olivia Says:

I read your ‘How I became a soccer fan’ and if I’m thinking of the same Mitre, then you weren’t too far from me
I support United too. You should have seen me last week =D

  52. funkybrownchick Says:

@ LaLaFuFu dotcom: So, you’re close to NYC – another slum. ;) Did anyone see that play Urinetown? I actually really liked it. :)

@ Cherie: Greetings, my fellow Midwesterner! :) THANKS for the support!! :)

@ Tiffani: Three cheers for the midwest (again)!!! I grew up in a tiny Midwesterner village and one of my ex-boyfriends is from Ohio. I could insert snarky comment here about the ex, but I’m gonna refrain.

  70. Andy Says:

Born in Singapore (yes, that place where they paddle folks for chewing gum), but I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I currently live in Alabama, but I will always be a California boy at heart. Up in the morning, almost 100 degrees already, skipping school for a beer at the beach and to watch the surf come in, cell phone ringing off the hook while I drive down the 280, hooking up with friends for happy hour on the Peninsula, tacos and/or sushi after bar hopping, and there’s still something jumping off all night long. West Coast, represent. How I miss you.

  71. funkybrownchick Says:

@ Lisa: Aren’t words fun?? :) I like playing with them, too.

@ Andy: 100 degrees???? Wow! I soooo don’t miss my days in the down south when it gets hot like THAT.
