UPDATE: Ooooh! Be sure to read New York Times article, “Sex and the Rest of the City — Different Shoe Budget, Same Love Troubles.”
————————–
Sex and the City (the movie) opens in Manhattan tonight. And, yeah, hell, I’ll admit it: I’m going to see it with my girls. Who’s in for tonight? Andy Milonakis‘ sister (inside joke: she doesn’t have a first name), my long-term friend April, a few women from my Beautiful Brown Girls Brunch Club (Ify, Rochelle, Suja, Chinyelu and Angie) as well as a new friend of a friend named Sara Rosen. Quite a diverse group of chicks with their own unique brand of sexy. We’re gonna have dinner, wine and cocktails at my favorite French restaurant. After that, we’ll see the movie, swing by the Feministing anniversary party and then go out dancing. Tavaris — an old university friend from BGSA (the black graduate student association) — is in town. The girls’ night out might meet up with the boys’ night out. Looking forward to hanging out with friends & seeing the movie. Our group is poorer, browner and more down to earth. What’s on the screen isn’t our lives; it’s just entertainment. Pure and simple.
I’m backed up on email. NYC friends, text me or (DM me on Twitter) if you wanna meet up tonight. Everyone else, you already know how to follow along with the live, play-by-play action: Twitter.
I already know quite a few of you aren’t SATC fans. Wondering: Is anyone else going to see the movie tonight or are you all skipping out on the madness?

Sorry Funky, but kicking and screaming would this bird be dragged to that movie. Heck, even Mrs. Doodlius feels this way. Just not our thing. We did see “Indiana Jones”, though – I thought it was pretty good and she thought it was “eh”.
Ms Brown..I can’t wait to see it..although i must admit..probably not until next week..just too busy this weekend..but the madness that is sitc is too much..its just a movie..
the movie only premieres next week, here. but i’ll do my best to watch it on premiere night :)) love love love SATC.
i don’t agree with the “SATC is racist because there’s no black people there”, because what i see is not colour, but consistents characters that i’m sure we all see ourselves in them, a little bit. hey, i don’t live in NYC, i’m definitely not that rich and sexier, but i see myself in a LOT of situations that those characters confront.
Ummm…I’m that girl who went to the midnight showing last night :) Have a blast!
We are going to have so much fun!
am hoping that it will be still out when I return…. maybe I’ll see it up here….
dang…. did I just out myself…… yeah…. I watched the show….. just like I watched
Miami Vice…. cool clothes, cool people and getting a look at some of my old
stomping grounds …. sometimes it’s nice to unplug and view mellow….
lamesabassman……” it’s only rock ‘n’ roll….. but I like it….”
Totally saw it midnight once it came out!! Alone though, but the comments from the crowd, and the gay couples on my left & right kept me warm. lol.
mmmm I know they dont really have minorities in there (mm just remembered Blair Underwood & Miranda, but I digress) but is it just me, or was Jennifer Hudsons, Weave/ Wig/ Lacefront not really good.
I saw it last night. Sold out show. I really liked it. Exactly what I expected. A light, slight cheesy, moderately predictable extension of the show. Just what I wanted. I’m glad I went to see it.
I also saw Indiana Jones and I agree with Mrs. Doodlius on the sentiment of “eh”
@Ambrosiality J-Hud’s hair was OK…I’ve seen worse lace fronts. I will say I really liked the wig she’s wearing when we first see her. The curly one. I wish she had just had that one throughout the movie.
I’m not going to pretend I understand fashion so I made fun of some of the clothes & accessories. Couture is art that just happens to be clothing. You’re not really meant to actually WEAR it. And if you do wear it, do it at night – then you can still have some semblance of chic. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
But what is SatC without Carrie wandering around New York in outlandish outfits? I enjoyed it anyway.
I was a SATC fan but I wouldn’t go see this at the theater. I’m afraid they’ll ruin the show and I’ll be disappointed. Besides, if it turns out to be good, I’d like to savor it at home than watch it at the theater. I’ll be waiting for it to come out on video.
Hope you enjoyed it!
@ Baba Doodlius: I’m an Indy fan, but I haven’t seen the latest one. :) By the way, SATC was actually pretty good. I went in with low expectations, and I walked out fairly impressed.
@ mrsbigg: Yeah, the madness is a little insane. :)
@ Carolina Pereira: Yeah, I didn’t really get the impression that the NY Times or Essence articles were necessarily saying SATC is racist. Sounds like the common theme is that relationship probs are universal.
@ Meeks: Ooooh, you’re hardcore! :)
@ Rochelle: Had a blast!
@ lamesabassman: I remember Miami Vice!!!
@ Grace and @ Ambrosiality: re hair – Yeah, I liked the curly look, too. I thought J-Hud looked pretty in the movie. :) Good summation, Grace! “A light, slight cheesy, moderately predictable extension of the show.” I thought the ending sucked, but the other parts of the movie were good.
@ Phoena: It’s funny, no? I prefer to see some movies by myself, some at home and some at the theater, too. Depends on the show.
the new Indy flick,in a word, hellacool…. from the word “go” it’s full tilt boogie…
and … yeah, it’s no Iron Man…. but for a 20 plus year hiatus, not bad…. but the really cool flick comes out in 6 weeks…” The Spirit “… and it’s just like Sin City..
only deeper and slicker….
P.S. : is it me who only thinks this way ,but it Sam.L. Jackson .. the new Mike
Caine… am saying this ’cause it seems that for every 6 films that are released ..
Mr. Caine is in 4 of them…. now Mr. Jackson is the new Nick Fury…. he in the new ” Spirit ” movie….. will this start a brand new game… the six degrees of
Sam L. Jackson….. that would be soooo cool…. guess in that biz,you keep
working ’till the phone stops ringing…. then you start painting art….
lamesabassman…… I’ve been a veddy,veddy bad boy here in Canada….
Even if ebert doesn’t like it, this movie plays great to its fan base, so what if its not a movie that’s always possible? its still fun!
