Coupla things. First and foremost, a few of you told me your workplaces blocked my site over the past week or so. My advice? Get a new job at a less fascist company. Kidding, of course. Seriously, I know a lot of you like to get down with the funky brown during your 9 – 5. And, I wanna do whatever I can to help you do that. So, here’s the plan. I’m gonna clean up my language up a bit. More stuff like “f*ck” and “sh!t.” Also, I won’t talk about “th33somes” without spelling the word as it exactly as it appears. The spelltricks are stupid, yes, I know. But, it’s gets me past the autofilters.
Next, it’s shortly after 5am and I’m already awake working. I ask for your patience and forgiveness on the blog this week. It’s “crunch time” because I’m turning in a book project soon. First (self-imposed) deadline is June 30. This week, I’m tired, not getting enough sleep and slightly frustrated that it seems like time is a b!tch who ran away from me earlier this week. Things will slow down a ton after Sunday.
Wish me luck with the book! The only thing I can compare it to is my MA thesis. Before this book, it was the longest thing I’d ever written. I worked on that thesis for like a year, but the hard work paid off. In the end, I got my degree and I later used my research for a published book chapter about group relations. But enough about my grad school days. Back to the current project. The typical book is about 200 – 350 pages or 50,000 to 75,000 words. I’ve got 18,000+ words and counting. I’ll keep you posted on my progress in the days ahead.

Good luck with finishing the book, it takes me forever to write, and lord knows I will someday write a masters thesis. I am in the process of applying for graduate school… deadlines are a b!tch.
Congratulations, that’s fabulous and that’s a LOT. I know your proposal’s gonna kick ass – maybe there’ll even be a bidding war!
@ Carolina Pereira: Ooooh! How come I didn’t think of that? ;) That’s a perfect solution! If you can’t access my blog at work, you can always get Funky Brown Express deliveries here: http://funkybrownchick.com/newsletter/. Option 5 is email delivery.
@ kali: Boot camp = writing group. I swear by them. When you have to be there each week, it forces you to produce something.
@ lamesabassman: THANKS! :)
@ Haute in LA: Happy hours steal a bunch of my time too. But, I think it’s good to have balance.
@ dkzone: THANKS!!
@ mish: DAMN! I was really looking forward to the possibility of seeing his fine ass up close and personal.
@ Baba Doodlius: I should put a post it note on my laptop with that written on it for inspiration: “Keep on bookin’!”
@ qp the magnificent: Ooh, good luck with your grad school applications!! I made a few really good friends during my GS days. Good times, good times.
@ Rachel Kramer Bussel: Wow. A bidding war? One can only dream, right? ;) I’m really proud of this particular project, and I care about telling the story more than the money. I’ll tell you more about that offline the next time we hang out.
I’m proud of you! I’ve been waiting for this book! Congrats! :-)
Thanks, Ro!! :)
