UPDATE: Latest Article Published
Mashable is one of my favorite sites. So, of course I’m super duper thrilled to write for them. My article, Top 5 Online Dating Site Trends, published last night. If you like that piece, you might like my Is Facebook Helping or Hurting Your Love Life? published earlier this year — if you haven’t read that already. In other news, at a fundraiser for the PEN American Center Writers’ Fund, I got an advanced copy of Pomp & Circumstance magazine slipped to me. My sexstrology piece, “Kissing the Zodiac” got published! :) More on that (i.e. list of places where you can buy the mag) coming soon. And, finally, in still other news, I got a tip about a rom com / documentary about black relationships and (gasp, gasp) interracial dating. Oh, you know I’m gonna weigh in on that one. It’s called “Diary of a Tired Black Man,” and the filmmaker ponders whether “black women are simply ‘too angry’ to be datable.” Oh gaaawd. :) More on that in a bit. In the meantime, go check out Mashable. Seriously, if you wanna know the latest and greatest news about the Internet, it’s one of the BEST sites out there.

gawd. seriously? “filmmaker ponders whether “black women are simply ‘too angry’ to be datable.” … gee, i do tend to get pissy when painted with a broad stereotype brush.

to do justice to the flix….. it’s gotta be written, produced and directed by a black
woman…… and very few males would not like to ride that bus….
lamesabassman…….. Spike Lee would have to foot the bill …’ cause ” a woman’s
gotta have it ” just barely scratched the surface….

… man, I wish I knew how to link my little AOL journal(Stars like grains of sand in my pocket) to this … anywho, I don’t know if sister girls are ‘angry’ insomuch as ‘defensive’ … they don’t really have the same kind of expectations to look for in a potential partner as I think other women do … as part of the problem, I admit to my share of their issues … and I do think that it is tough for them to relax and let love take its course …

Ooh! Congrats! I’m gonna go over and read it. Can’t wait for “Kissing the Zodiac.” So far, I’ve pretty much only kissed Saggitarians. Branching out is probably a good idea ;)

@ tiffany: Yeah, I’m not a fan of the broad stereotype brush either. :)
@ Peggy b.: THANKS!!!
@ Cynthia: The film got picked up by Magnolia Pictures, so it’s likely to be widely available soon.
@ lamesabassman: The filmmaker is a man.
@ markonit: Loving someone, making yourself vulnerable, revealing your insecurities/flaws/whathaveyou can be a scary place for a lot of people. Many women and men (regardless of ethnicity) find it hard to “relax and let love take its course.” Hell, who DOESN’T get a little nervous on first dates when it’s with someone you really really like?
@ sid: I’ll post the link as soon as it’s online!! :)
