I noticed within 1.5 and 2nd generation Muslim in North America, this group dating phenomena, of self-organizing girl groups then meeting up with self-organizing boy groups at numerous larger Islamic Conventions as early as 2001. It was a way for the young'uns to find a way to 'date' without compromising their religious worldview nor feeling uncomfortable when reporting back to their parents about how they 'met' this great 'muslim brother' or sister they just met.
