Have to agree completely that SHORTBUS is anything BUT a romantic comedy. It has nothing to do with either romance or comedy. The writer/director (and one of the extras himself in several of the orgies) said that when he made the film he wanted to show that a story could be integrated in to a movie that featured real (not staged) sex. He also said that "the title SHORTBUS (which can be used as a derogatory term since mentally handicapped people are frequently transported on SHORT BUSES - thus the title) describes the characters in the film. Instead of the traditional mental handicaps, all my (his) characters have emotional handicaps." So the author/writer/producer/director/star doesn't even consider his film a romantic comedy.

On the up side...I think one of the funniest romantic comedies is a film called I THINK I DO. I have watched that many times (something I rarely do with films). I enjoy it just as much every time. BTW; a great way to show your straight friends that not every LGBT movie or TV show is about HIV, the death of a partner, etc. Comes as quite a surprise that we actually have movies as well that are just made for pleasure since the only LGBT movies on main stream TV (and characters) are always professing their undying love...then dying!

I also agree that TRICK is definitely right at the top of sweet, romantic comedies...probably tied with I THINK I DO in my #1 spot. Each has its niche; I THINK I DO is a little funnier and TRICK is a little sweeter; great balance for a night in watching movies.

Hope you enjoy the movies and I didn't preach too much.

SHORTBUS is not a romantic comedy. It's basically artsy porn. I mean, seriously...if you are looking for a romance that just happens to be about gay people, shortbus is the wrong tree to bark up. Unless you consider threesomes, orgies and public sex "romantic"...

"Priscilla Queen of the Desert" - wow, THAT'S going back a while. But Hugo Weaving was much better as Agent Smith in "The Matirx".

I like The Object of My Affection, starring Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd. It looks at and questions the idea of family, gender and sexuality. Funny and relevant.

I would add In and Out. It's the first time (I think) I ever saw two guys kiss on screen. And it's just a good movie!
