A couple days ago, a friend commented: “Good Will Hunting is the original Bromance movie.” At first, I agreed. I mean, who could forget Ben Affleck and Matt Damon‘s ridiculously cute acceptance speech at the 70th Annual Academy Awards!??! But, hold on there kiddies. On-screen, intimate friendships between men (Bromances) existed before Ben & Matt were born. Remember Jerry Lewis and that Dean Martin guy? Or, what about Will Smith and Martin Lawrence? Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan? I don’t know who can claim the “First Bromance” title (Marx brothers? Laurel & Hardy?), but I’d love to know your opinion: Which Coupling is the CUTEST bromance? Forgive me as I digress; I have a problem with the term bromance. What happened to the terms friends, partners or buddies? It is my assertion that the term “bromance” suggests something deeper than the term friends does (i.e., romantic intimacy or sex). Although, most say that the term has nothing to do with homosexuality, I think the term suggests otherwise; after all it is the portmanteau of brother and romance. I have nothing against same sex relationships; however, I am proud of whom I am too and therefore the creep toward defining male and male relationships counter to what they actually are disturbs me.

I do love the Ocean’s 11 bromance orgy that goes one there. It’s strangely erotic yet perfect for imagining a group who could do Vegas up right.
Also, the Will Ferrell/Judd Apatow bromance is a great one too.

Believe it or not James Franco and Seth Rogen (hotter now that he lost some weight) in Pineapple Express did it for me.

Good to have you back :) I’m not sure why, but James Franco kind of freaks me out. Ever since I read that Gawker piece about him and his boyfriend, I’ve kind of been anti-Franco. Though, I should admit, I really liked him in this super indie film I saw at Tribeca ages ago. He was a drug addict who went to live with his brother or something like that.
