Who’s the Cutest Bromance Couple?

June 15th, 2009 Posted in Manly Mondays, Understanding Men

Bromance: George Clooney and Brad PittA couple days ago, a friend commented: “Good Will Hunting is the original Bromance movie.” At first, I agreed. I mean, who could forget Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s ridiculously cute acceptance speech at the 70th Annual Academy Awards!??! But, hold on there kiddies. On-screen, intimate friendships between men (Bromances) existed before Ben & Matt were born. Remember Jerry Lewis and that Dean Martin guy? Or, what about Will Smith and Martin Lawrence? Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan? I don’t know who can claim the “First Bromance” title (Marx brothers? Laurel & Hardy?), but I’d love to know your opinion:  Which Coupling is the CUTEST bromance? Feel free to use the comments section below to leave your suggestions. If you need inspiration, LA Times has a 11 Brands of Bromance slideshow. My vote: Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.

    best bromance ever?

Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure with Keanu and ….the other guy ( ironically he went to my hs, and even I can’t remember his name…LOL)

    =)

Forgive me as I digress; I have a problem with the term bromance. What happened to the terms friends, partners or buddies? It is my assertion that the term “bromance” suggests something deeper than the term friends does (i.e., romantic intimacy or sex). Although, most say that the term has nothing to do with homosexuality, I think the term suggests otherwise; after all it is the portmanteau of brother and romance. I have nothing against same sex relationships; however, I am proud of whom I am too and therefore the creep toward defining male and male relationships counter to what they actually are disturbs me.

    Bob and Bing …..

    lamesabassman….. The Road Pixs……

  4. No Nonsense Says:

Bromance, does it have to be between two guys? I think the best set of friends yet were the “Rat Pack”

  5. Caryn Says:

Gael and Diego get my vote. ;)

I do love the Ocean’s 11 bromance orgy that goes one there. It’s strangely erotic yet perfect for imagining a group who could do Vegas up right.

Also, the Will Ferrell/Judd Apatow bromance is a great one too.

I hope none of these every result in a “dude-vorce”….

Does it have to be in show biz?  I thought Bush and Cheney were perfect for each other.

time for your meds, Mr.D…..      those guys were “Amos ‘n’ Andy” in real time….. and we
sat thru that for quite a while…..

lamesabassman….. but if you are leaning towards a SNL swerve …. then that’s killer….

  9. sid Says:

Your vote works for me! I love both those tiny little sexypants dudes.

  10. Zen Denizen Says:

Gael and Diego are certainly pretty to look at!

Believe it or not James Franco and Seth Rogen (hotter now that he lost some weight) in Pineapple Express did it for me.

  11. Dee Says:

Um, I do believe it would have to be JD and Turk from Scrubs (or Zach Braff and Donald Faison if you prefer). Pure greatness.

dkzone: Isn’t that sad? That movie totally put Keanu on the map, but no one even remembers the other guy. :)

tryinhrd2: Oh, the word “bromance” could get a full post on it’s own. :) When men have intimate non-sexual relations, it’s called a “bromance.” When women do it, it’s just, you know, “friends.” Can’t men just be “friends” too? :)

lamesabassman: I don’t known who those people are.

    No Nonsense
    : The Brat Pack? :)

    Caryn
    : Aren’t they delicious?!

Amiyrah: OMG, Ocean’s 11 was such a GREAT movie and 12 was such a let down. :( I didn’t see 13 because 12 sucked so bad but I heard 13 was actually really good.

Baba Doodlius: Yes! Good one. You could even say, “They deserved each other.”

sid: They are, indeed, little. And they are sexypants :)

    Zen Denizen
: Heeeey, thanks for commenting! You’ve been quite for a while. I know my regulars, and I know when they’ve been missing. Good to have you back :) I’m not sure why, but James Franco kind of freaks me out. Ever since I read that Gawker piece about him and his boyfriend, I’ve kind of been anti-Franco. Though, I should admit, I really liked him in this super indie film I saw at Tribeca ages ago. He was a drug addict who went to live with his brother or something like that.

Dee: WINNER! You are such a winner! I didn’t even think about them, but they’re soooooo perfect! :) Seriously, can anyone come up with a more perfect duo than those two. They were TOTAL cuteness!

  13. lamesabassman...... Says:

Netflix….. if you like to laugh…. that’s only the beginning….. Olson and Johnson….. the Marx Bros. …… the Road Pixs….  stuff like that…. anyone living in NYC, check out The Museum of  Broadcasting…. a lot of this stuff is  there….. there was a time when funny meant something
buy a bottle of Pinot Noir and dig in…..

    lamesabassman….. ’tis a riot….

I went to a party at the Museum of Broadcasting once. Met Morgan Spurlock there and totally had a “swoon moment” when he introduced himself. :)
