Black Women + Asian Men = Blasian Hot Dating
I’m leaving New York for a tiny vacation tomorrow. More on that soon. In the meantime, before I spill those details, I soooo have to tell you news about the latest onscreen blasian couple. If you read Everyone Loves an Asian Boy, you know how much I adore cute blasian (Black Woman / Asian Man or Black Man / Asian Woman) couples on television and in real life. And by “TV” I mean streaming. I gave up cable. So, as I was saying, apparently, there’s a new one coming to a screen near you. ABC’s Flash Forward features that sexy drop of deliciousness, John Cho. His character, Demetri Noh, is engaged to “Zoey.” Soooooo, IMDB says Gabrielle Union has been cast in that role. (Also saw this on The Sauda Voice.) HOT BLASIAN LOVE!!! I’m, so excited to see a diverse cast on network TV, and I’m super interested to see if there’s any onscreen chemistry between John Cho and Gabrielle Union. They’re both incredibly sexy, attractive actors. Who doesn’t want to see them get it on?

Too fucking cute!! Why didn’t anyone tell me about this onscreen blasian coupling? In the clip below, I think ABC should change their advertising: [insert manly newscaster voice] Coming this fall … Flash Forward! The most intriguing show on ABC … AND we give you blasian love!! ;)

Gotta love Blasian love!

Both are attractive, but what’s unfortunate (and really sad) is that I only know John Cho from his Harold & Kumar roles. He is branded in my mind as a man who plays immature characters. I can’t see him with Gabrielle Union, who is somewhat typecasted as an upwardly mobile woman on the go.

That Cho guy is taking over the world. First Harold and Kumar, then Mr. Sulu in Star Trek, now this. Is there anything he can’t do?

Wow, I’ve just become a fan of your blog. I’m a Korean-American guy dating a Black woman so I’m really gladdened to hear of this. I don’t watch much TV but I’ll certainly be checking out this new show. Way to go, Cho…boldly going where no Asian man has gone before.

I will be sure to watch this show. I don’t understand why this ethnic blend of romance is causing such a stir. My last few boyfriend have been asian or asian mixes.
That’s just the landscape for where I live. But then again, I date men based on the connection between the two of us. I try not to let ethnic background be the main factor.

nahhh
Angelina’s a straight up freak. She probably either got turned on by watching her man bang out Halle……or wanted to bang her out herself……

Maybe it’s just me but there’s got to be a better word than “blasian”, lol.

Shia: So do I! :)
mydria: Indeed!
Pamela: I like John Cho and, yeah, it would be nice to see him in more positive, mature roles. Kal Penn made the jump w/ Namesake. Hope he’ll be able to do it as well. I’m sure he can :)
Baba Doodlius: Nope, there’s NOTHING he can’t do!!! :)
lamesabassman: :)
Chotpy: I hope so too!!!
dkzone: LOVED her in Bring It On!!
kobukson: Thanks; glad you like the blog!!
Danna Wroblewski: That’s a good thing :)
dkzone: Who knows!
kobukson: I like the word “blasian”

Hey girl! Love the blog…I’m late…stumbled upon your site a couple of months ago (can’t remember how). Anywho, I got a couple of questions if you don’t mind…I see that you have a rather “colorful” dating history. Was this the case when you lived in Chicago? I”m asking cuz I live in “da Chi” and I don’t see many BW/WM couples OR opportunities. Did your interracial dating opportunities open up when you left???
The other question…well, I guess it’s more of an observation…I keep seeing people mention how Black women get so up in arms when they see a White woman with a Black man, but I have noticed that White women are way more upset when they see a White man with a Black woman. Black women are pretty much used to seeing Black men dating interracially because it’s in our faces every day (sports celebrities, actors, etc.) so it’s not a shock to us anymore. But in my own experiences I noticed White women can’t stand to see Black Women conversing with a White man, let alone dating them. In your experiences, have you noticed that? Is that another “Chicago” thing?
I hope my post wasn’t offensive, but I am really curious. I would like you to touch on this.
Thanks!

If you can’t display interest in Gabrielle Union you have no business being an actor. Or a straight man.
September 8th, 2009 at 1:17 am
dat’s true….
lamesabassman…….. and then some….

FlyGemini: Welcome to the blog! :) You ask, Here are the answers to your questions: Was it the same in Chicago? Yes. In Chicago, my guys included: a delciously brown Mexican, a French Canadian with dark hair, a blond white American boy from the Midwest, and a few dudes from Spain. You said, “[I]n my own experiences I noticed White women can’t stand to see Black Women conversing with a White man, let alone dating them. In your experiences, have you noticed that?” Hmmm, this is a hard question. Do black men care more when they see a white man with a black woman, do white women care, have black women given up, etc., etc. It’s a complex question, and I’ll probably write about it again soon. For now, the short answer about all that is: Yes, I’ve noticed some women (and men) care more than others.
alicia: :)
lamesabassman: There are so many pretty women of all shades. If you google “hottest Asian woman” I’m sure you’ll get several lists! :)
Brenz: Funny but true :)

@Pamela
Jon has done a number a rolls where he is not clowing as in Harold and Kumar. Most of these have been small Asian independent films plus he has done several guest on televison. He is a great actor and if given the chance he would have a much larger filmography. Although he is silly in H&K this a positive roll for Asian men as we are not cast as asexual, spinless human beings. Also it highlights the white racism that we experience which his never told in this country.
Several of his movies are available on NETFLIX; a list of his films are here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cho .
