This Is Why We Love and Cheat

“Romantic love is a drive. In fact, I think it’s more powerful than the sex drive. You know, if you ask someone to go to bed with you and they say “no thank you” you certainly don’t kill yourself or slip into a depression. But, certainly, around the world, people who are rejected in love with kill for it. People live for love, kill for love and will die for it.”

Helen Fisher, author of The First Sex, Why We Love and Anatomy of Love: A Natural History of Mating, Marriage, and Why We Stray

Heads up: The video clip above is 20+ minutes. It’s a bit long, but it’s thought-provoking and worth watching. I’m much more drawn to these kinds of discussions than the fluffy “Top 10 Ways To Turn Your Man on TONIGHT!!!!” stuff.

This is great!  I love the TED presentations.  Interesting what she says about anti-depressants.

If you like this – I’ve just finished reading The Female Brain, which is written by a neuro-psychiatrist.  It’s very interesting what our hormones do to us.

Love your site!

I also love TED presentations and this one is great. I love when you learn what the actual problem is, the source of your pain or why you’re doing something that’s causing pain… then you can go about fixing it, not just treating the symptoms. Great post!

Sarah: Thanks for recommending The Female Brain. I’ll check it out! :) Thanks, also, for reading my site!! :)

Jessica: Thanks! And, yeah, TED presentations rock. Academic Earth is good, too. Though, generally, I like TED’s stuff better because it’s about sharing ideas; Academic Earth kind of has this annoying bourgeois / elitist feel to it — i.e. YAY!! The commoners can now hear real scholars from Harvard, Yale and elsewhere.

Hasn’t the world ALWAYS been a dangerous, violent place? Um, yeah
