The Films of the 2000s

the films of the 2000s from Paul Proulx on Vimeo.

It’s 1:37 a.m., and I’ve spent much of the evening writing and/or talking about the publishing industry. My fingers are tired of typing. So, instead of posting words here, thought I’d share this 2000s movie montage clip by Paul Proulx. Can’t quite put my finger on why I found it so touching, but I did. Hope you enjoy it. 5 Tips: Oral Sex Performed on the Penis

February 23rd, 2010 | 9 folks got down with the Funky Brown | Posted in Dating and Mating

I’m currently reading Manhood: The Rise and Fall of the Penis, and it includes tons of interesting facts about castration, testicles, sperm, the penis, the prostate and many other manly topics. Seriously, it’s amazing how much fun stuff Mels van Driel shares about pee pees. From his chapter titled The Penis, I’ve learned only 8% of harden to completely vertical shafts when erect. I also learned men frequently used to share their balls, testicular transplants were commonplace in the late 1800s / early 1900s. So far, Manhood is a fun read. There’s even a section called “The smell of the scrotum.” I’ll probably write a book review for a future Manly Monday. In the meantime, since we all love penises such much around here, why not talk about giving them pleasure?

I didn’t know how to perform oral sex properly until one of my exes — a bisexual man with many many years of dick slurping experience — showed me how. Though I haven’t doled the full treatment to every lover I’ve gone down on, those who’ve received it haven’t complained. But, then again, would ANY guy ever seriously complain about receiving a blow job? Not sure. Anyway. Whether you’re a person who puts them in your mouth or someone who has one attached to you (or both), please feel free to use the comments section to share your oral sex tips. What feels good? What feels bad? What works? What doesn’t?

“Why Can’t You See You Belong With Me?”

February 22nd, 2010 | Be first to leave a comment | Posted in Manly Mondays

Ah, what a nice face. Good Looks + Beautiful Voice = Win. Rakesh Satyal is a fellow native Midwesterner turned New Yorker — though he hails from Ohio and I’m originally from Illinois. His book, Blue Boy, is a coming-of-age story about a gay, Indian-American child who morphs from a small boy to a Hindu deity. Can’t wait to finish it. In the meantime, last Thursday, I listened to Rakesh read a bit of his work at In the Flesh Erotic Reading Series. As a special bonus, when his reading concluded, he serenaded the crowd with Taylor Swift’s “You Belong to Me.” Maybe it’s because I’m a huge musical theater fan, but I LOOOOVED it! And, I’m not alone. In the clip below, you’ll notice he made the entire room smile, laugh and sing along.

Great video, right? Not sure if it captures the full spirit of the room because it was kind of one of those “you had to be there” moments. In any case, a big Funky Brown Chick salute to today’s Manly Monday pick. To find out more about him, visit Rakesh Satyal online.

John Mayer’s Playboy Interview: A Reaction

09/04/2009 (Day 3.99) - PlayboyHappy Monday! As previously mentioned, at Kiss & Tell I planned to perform a piece about John Mayer’s Playboy interview. I couldn’t do the full performance because the show was canceled. (Inclement weather.) However, since I brought the topic up on Funky Brown Chick – and several of you left comments and emailed me to ask, “What did you think about his interview?”– here are my quick and jumbled thoughts …

Playboy is about sex. Playboy wants to be racy. And, in America — for several reasons — conversations about race & sex are often racy. However, lest we lose perspective, I was talking about Playboy. John Mayer, on the other hand, is a musician — not a respected commentator about topics related to either sexuality or ethnicity. In fact, if he were better informed about either topic, I highly doubt he would’ve said such ignorant remarks about race (i.e. comparing his cock to a white supremacist) or sexuality (i.e. he used the word “fags” to describe gay men and said he could “outgay” Perez Hilton). That’s classy, right? ;) Anyway. Moving right along.

I feel blessed to have guy friends, acquaintances and others who are black, Asian, Mexican, beefy & brown, Canadian, French Canadian, German and other nationalities and ethnicities. Those are pals. My boyfriends, lovers and fuck buddies span an equally wide spectrum. Why? That’s just how I roll.

So, when John Mayer said “I don’t think I open myself to [dating black women],” my immediate reaction was: Too bad for him  :)  Apparently, he’ll never experience the pleasures more open minded (and mature!) men like model Gabriel Aubry, film critic Roger Ebert, rockstar David Bowie, R&B crooner Robin Thicke, celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, actors Justin Chambers, Chris Noth (a.k.a. Sex in the City’s “Big”), Robert DeNiro, Brad Pitt and so many others who have, ahem, dipped vanilla sticks in chocolate pudding. ;)

C’est tout. I’m already tired of this story. There are more pressing matters worthy of attention and many many interesting characters more deserving of a Manly Monday nod. Soooo, coming up next, a very musical Manly Monday selection to charm your ears. Stay tuned.

Update

February 16th, 2010 | 3 folks got down with the Funky Brown | Posted in New York

Hey, guys! Just a quick note … Was gonna post the John Mayer piece before performing it tonight, but Kiss & Tell was canceled due to weather. New date is 3/16. Will still perform at Kiss & Tell, but I’m not sure do that particular piece that far out. Will keep you posted.

Hot Brown P*ssy & Immature White D*ck: John Mayer

At the moment, I’m working on a piece about John Mayer. Quite frankly, I’m wholly uninterested in what he does or doesn’t do with his cock. That said, the brouhaha around his comments in Playboy inspired discussion — and, thereby, my decision to write — about sex & race/ethnicity in general, and interracial fucking in particular. (As most of you know, it’s a topic to which I’ve already devoted much attention.)

Okay, so, on Tuesday, I’m performing at my friend Abiola Abrams‘ reading series, Kiss & Tell Live. I’ll either do a piece about: (A) the first time I ever slept with someone who wasn’t black; (B) my views on interracial dating vis-à-vis John Mayer’s recent Playboy interview; or (C) an absurdest, political & completely fictional story about losing my virginity TO John Mayer titled: “Hot Brown P*ssy & Immature White D*ck: Why Can’t Louis Farrakhan and David Duke Just Get Along?” ;) Use the comments to tell me which of the three stories you’d like to hear. Can’t be COMPLETELY sure, but my tentative plan is to post the piece on Funky Brown Chick Tuesday morning and perform it that evening. (That way, you guys get to see it first.) I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, to give you an idea what the reading will be like, here’s Abiola’s promo video for Kiss & Tell LIVE:

Winner: Funky Brown Chick Reader PAMELA

Trophies

What a lovely time for a Reader Appreciation Day. Just a quick note to say congratulations to Pamela, winner of the Love Kit. :) In case you wondered how the winner was selected, I took the total number of entries on Twitter and www.funkybrownchick.com and added the digits together. For example, if eleven (11) people entered … 1 + 1 = 2, I would’ve awarded the prize to the second entry. If 15 people entered … 1 + 5 = 6, so the sixth entry would’ve won. And, so on. I wanted a fair way to generate a random winner, and that seemed easy enough.

For Valentine’s Day, Pamela says she might have dinner with friends or enjoy solo time with “wine, salmon, and a long Lush bath.” (Sounds fun!) As the winner, she’ll likely receive lip balm, Whitney Casey’s 256-page guide The Man Plan, chocolates, a Match.com membership discount coupon, a manicure set, a free 30-day online movie rental subscription and other stuff. Huge THANK YOUs to the lovely folks at Match.com for getting down with the Funky Brown by hooking up an FBC reader with a love kit!
