If you’ve been to Funky Brown Chick before, you know we kick the week off with Manly Monday — joyful celebrations of a particular man and/or a testosterone-filled idea. In recent weeks, we’ve talked about Tiger Woods, penis size and men who fake orgasms. Inspired by a Chicago friend (Nestor Brûlée), today’s manly topic is: chest hair removal. I don’t know if Nestor’s torso sprouts fur because, unfortunately, I’ve never seen him naked. We only discussed chest hair after I shared a 90s Marky Mark Calvin Klein commercial featuring Mark Walhberg’s (huge package and) smooth, hairless pecs on my Facebook. “Waxed chests,” Nestor commented, “yea or nay?”

As I’ve said plenty o’ times: There’s absolutely nothing wrong with loving a hairy man. Actually, all things being equal, I’m usually more likely to be sexually sparked by guys with hairy arms, legs and chests. I like strong, dark features. Seriously, ask me about my “thing” for the 70s porn stud look. My vote: DON’T wax it. Of course my body is, for the most part, totally hairless. So, maybe that makes me a hypocrite. In any case, feel free to use the comments section to tell men what you think: “Should guys wax or laser their chest hair?”

  1. I think it definitely depends on how much they have, and if they want to shave/wax at all. If their partner would like them to, I think they should consider it but it is ultimately their decision. I don’t mind my boyfriend’s chest hair but he doesn’t have a lot. He tries to keep other places trimmed so it’s probably something he would consider if I said something about it.

  2. Ultimately it’s their decision, but in my opinion it’s a sign of manliness…and plus, a waxed chest tells me a guy is either insecure about his body or extremely high-maintenance/obsessed with himself.

  3. back sac and crack and get that chest waxed too… i love it…

  4. I don’t like them waxed but they should at least do some ‘man-scaping’ in the pits and below the equator. Just trim it down a little. Hair is indigestible.

  5. My chest hair is little squarely…not real thick, kinda grows thicker right in the middle of my chest, on my nipples and around my belly button.  To me, I think it looks better trimmed (so it does not look so spotty).  My wife, on the other hand, HATES it when I trim it, etc..  She likes it just the way God gave it to me, so I pretty much leave it alone.  Heck, she’ll keep her stuff pretty much trimmed however I want, so I owe her the same courtesy.

If it were up to me and she honestly had no preference, I’d probably keep all of my body hair trimmed pretty short (although not shaved/waxed)…not because I am cool or anything, just so it’d look a little more uniform, I guess.

FWIW, I do keep my nether regions pretty well groomed.  It makes it a little more inviting for her. :)

As for another guys opinion of what looks good on guys, if a guy fairly young, is in shape, takes care of his body, etc. I think shaving/waxing it looks pretty good…but I can see where it would also come off as high-maintenance, a little conceited, self-centered, not a “man’s man” too.

  6. Chest hair? MEN – LEAVE IT ALONE, I beg you. I LOVE chest hair: the more, the merrier. As for armpit hair and pubes: trim, neaten, and tidy, please – especially if you want my tongue to be exploring you at every opportunity.

  7. chest hair = great! facial hair = Sexy! even arm, leg and hand hair = fantastic! I am not really down with the back hair though…or the long john, leg hair look.

  8. No. A man should be hairy and unless they are a swimmer then there is no need for it. I find chest hair a major turn-on.

  9. Guys who wax their chest can go pluck themselves!

  10. When I was younger I kind of liked hairy men.  Not back hair, but a full-chest of hair was sexy to me.  Then I had a bad break-up with a very hairy guy and ever since then, chest hair has turned me off completely.  I always remember resting my head on his chest and his hair making crunchy noises in my ear.  Now when I see a guy with a hairy chest, all I can think is that cuddling up with him would be like resting my head in a bowl of corn flakes.

I like a bare chest on my man.  Arm, leg and underarm hair are all ok on men as long as it’s not too long.  All other body hair can go.  The older I get, the more body hair on anyone seems like an unsightly, uncomfortable inconvenience.

  11. Hair removal is only acceptable in the most extreme cases.

Pubic hair should be left alone.

  12. I, happily, do not grow chest hair really. I do have a treasure trail, that runs from my belly button down to ” Mr Happy-land”.

    ;)

    • am 16 i have  started to get chest hair i also have a treasure trail from my belly button to my manhood

  13. If I had two men who were otherwise the same, but one had chest hair and the other didn’t, I’d prefer the one without the chest hair.  But it isn’t a big deal.

Back hair, on the other hand…ugh.

  14. I love chest hair (must be kept neat and trimmed). Back hair not so much…

  15. Wow so many on here seem to love the chest hair. Me personally,I’m ok with a little hair but when it get to the beastly level, it is time to wax, shave, pluck, burn or whatever you need to do to decrease the quantity. I am more partial to a clean smooth guy

  16. And I guess the term “beastly” is subjective. What I feel is beastly might not necessarily be the case for the next person. To me if I put my hand on your chest and all I feel is thick, matted hair and absolutely no skin- that is “beastly”

  17. I don’t like a lot of chest hair! I just can’t imagine me kissing him on his chest on my down to his …. and his hair stuck in my mouth! Ugh! On other hand arms, legs hair is fine.

  18. Ahh. She called his boob a cyclopes lol.

  19. am 23 yeatrs old i have a lot of chest hair my girlfriend loves it

  20. Well im a normal guy with minimal chest hair .. im not hairy so im safe :)

  21. I have had a “fur rug” on my chest since I was 15.  Once upon a time, I was dating a woman who said that she did not like cuddling up to a bear rug and I allowed her to wax my chest.  It took me about a fortnight to recover and will never do it again (although I do keep the rest of my body trimmed).
OU TE ALOFAH IA TE OI.

  23. I should grow my hair out like that.

  24. I have been suffering from too much hair for years. I got bullied for it at school and it lowers myself confidence now. I never take my top off at the beach, I haven’t been swimming since I was a child and I am not exactly confident when I take my top of for a woman.

Most women hate it. Some think its ok and very very few seem to love it. I would much rather be without. Just starting to get hair on my back and shoulders. I will probs wax that and keep trimming my chest/abdomen but as I said I would much rather be free from it all together.
