And you thought conservative, Islamic countries were afraid of sex. ;) Did you know Pakistani television airs a national, cable, call-in show called Clinic Online? Each week, viewers ask a doctor live questions about their sex lives. A few days ago, NPR ran a story about it. Listen to the clip. Earlier this year, Salon published a good story about it, too: “In Pakistan, a TV show focuses on a topic once taboo: Sex.”
It’s interesting. Americans sometimes consider sex vulgar, sex education controversial. So far, that’s worked out great for us: We’re horrendously behind peer, developed countries when it comes to infant mortality, maternal health, teen pregnancy rates, HIV/AIDS infections and diagnosis, and STD rates. We deserve better.
