February 13th, 2007 | 14 folks got down with the Funky Brown | Posted in Dating Roadkill

I’m a single woman New York City. I don’t have a boyfriend, partner, fuck buddy or any other type of being that has a penis attached to it. As such, I’m flying solo this Valentine’s Day. But, you know what? That’s okay.

Hmm … If you didn’t get a chance to listen to the live episode of Dating Roadkill last night, click the media player below to listen to the recorded podcast. We start off with sex columnist Rachel Kramer Bussel & author of The Great Sex Secret, Kim Marshall. And, before we wrap, we tell you ways to surprise your lover (or yourself) if you’re flying solo this Valentine’s Day.

But, there’s more to Valentine’s Day than sex, right? So, tell me … What are you doing to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year?

The Secret to Great Sex Is …

February 9th, 2007 | 7 folks got down with the Funky Brown | Posted in Dating Roadkill

Wait. Hold that thought. I’m soooooooo fucking glad it’s Friday! This week almost kicked my ass. As many of you know, I work full-time and I’m completing a part-time MA program. That stuff, the blog, the internet radio show, church, friends, a couple of recent dates, writing projects, family, etc. etc. I enjoy it all, but somehow it was all a bit much this week. I’m exhausted. So, I’m taking it easy this weekend. My only set plans are an interesting rendezvous with Playboy Magazine and a private art exhibition party on Saturday. (I’ll fill you in on all of the details soon.) Thank God, Buddha, the Dali Lama and every other good and holy deity for Fridays.

Anyway, new topic …

Sex. I’m not getting any. But, that doesn’t mean that it’s not on my mind. In preparation for Monday’s episode of Dating Roadkill ( … yeah, I know the site needs to be updated with the new info DONE) … Shit. Where was I? Oh, yeah … Sex. Okay, so, I checked out 20 Amazing Sex Secrets on iVillage. Research, for my show, you know? Monday’s episode of Dating Roadkill is “A Surprise Valentine’s Day Show”. Our guests will be sex columnist Rachel Kramer Bussel and author of The Great Sex Secret Kim Marshall. Join us for a conversation about the best ways to surprise your lover (or, if you’re flying solo like I am … yourself) with great sex this Valentine’s Day! To listen to the live show, visit BlogTalkRadio on Monday at 10:00PM EST.

It’s GAY DAY at Dating Roadkill!!

February 2nd, 2007 | 3 folks got down with the Funky Brown | Posted in Dating Roadkill

Happy Gay Day! If that’s not already an official holiday, it should be dammit. Actually, if my memory serves me well, there *is* such a thing as Gay Day in Disney World. But, I’m not in Florida. I’m in New York City. So, I’m gonna make up my own Gay Day for all of the sexy & beautiful LGBTQ and straight folks here at the FUNKY BROWN CHICK headquarters.

To celebrate Gay Day, the next Dating Roadkill — an internet radio show & podcast based on this blog — features some of the most intimate and lovely dating stories from the LGBTQ community. Lisa-Nicolle Grist, Executive Director of the Alternatives to Marriage Project, joins us to talk about the latest and greatest in the same-sex marriage & domestic partnership debate. Afterwards, you’ll hear dating stories straight (no pun intended) from the mouths of three of the sexiest gay men in New York & Los Angeles. This not-to-miss episode is “So Gay, It’s G-A-I-Y-E!!” Just when you thought you’d heard it all, time for things you thought you’d never hear. Listen. Learn. Celebrate. Appreciate.

Two Assholes: Tom and Larry

January 26th, 2007 | 7 folks got down with the Funky Brown | Posted in Dating Roadkill

Tom and JerryRemember that cartoon Tom and Jerry? Well, Monday’s episode of Dating Roadkill is going to be just like that show. But, instead of “Tom and Jerry”, it’s “Tom and Larry”. Tom’s not a cat. Larry’s not a mouse. They’re both just assholes. And, they’re gonna be on my show! Gather round, folks. On the next episode of Dating Roadkill, we’re going to reveal the secrets of why women date assholes. You don’t wanna miss this one! I know I said that last week, but I mean it even more this time.

If this is your first time visiting FUNKYBROWNCHICK.com, Dating Roadkill is an internet radio show that lets you call in and share your dating stories. Tom and Larry are assholes; so, they’re gonna share their stories whether we want to hear them or not! You’ll never guess what they have to say about dating, marriage, and what it means to be a man. Call in to comment, agree, disagree, or share your own dating stories. “Why Do Women Date Assholes?” airs live on BlogTalkRadio Monday night at 10:00pm. So, tell, me … What do you think makes a man a “good man?” And, if you’re a woman, do you find yourself oddly attracted to asshole men or do those guys turn you off? If you’re a guy, what are your opinions about manhood?

What’s Up with the Bar Scene?

If you’re ever in New York City for a visit — or, of course, if you all ready live here — you should make a pit stop by a bar / restaurant known as Employees Only. Once, while out partying with a group of friends, Sid recommended this place. (Before that, I’d never heard of it.) Owner operated, Employees Only was originally created for and by bartenders, waitstaff and other folks in the yummy food & drink industry. Check out their website; it has a lot of really cool stuff on there about how and why they got started with the idea for this place. And since we’re on the topic of bars and bartenders …

Some of you sexy little things all ready know that I used to live in London many many years ago. While there, among other things, I was a bartender at this great little pub in Bayswater. It was the first time that I’d ever tended bar. And, I was always kind of intrigued by the strange attraction that I felt with some of the customers … Okay, this is totally a tangent but this thought just occurred to me … If everyone claims to hate the bar scene — and everybody does — why are the bars around the city packed with hot, young single folks all weekend long? What’s that about? I’m really interested to hear your thoughts on the “bar scene” ; please feel free to share them in the comment section. (And, of course, we’ll have an opportunity to chat about all of this together on the next Dating Roadkill. The episode, “Bartending Babes,” airs at 10:00PM EST on Monday.)

BTW, today officially ends our “3-day vacation” together. Hope you enjoyed it. :)

Free 3-Day Vacation to New York!!!

I love New York! In fact, I love this city so much that I’ve decided to share it with each and every one of you. Over the next three days, I’ll decribe three of my favorite areas of the city with you in great detail. If you live here, maybe you’ll check out some of the places that I’ll mention. If you don’t live here, consider this to be kind of a free, all expenses paid, 3-day vacation in NYC. Coming soon … “live” from Ninth Avenue at Little West 12th Street!
